I don't want to stop anyone from donating toward this opportunity, but will someone please confirm that this is a legitimate site. Has anyone heard about it? First race is Feb. 16th. Sounds like huge advertisement and a great way to let the nation know (since the media won't tell them) that Ron Paul is still in this race. If it's legit, we need to spread the word! Can anyone verify?

They are saying it will be a front-runner... waiting to confirm before declaring whose car it is. Maybe if the Paulites call and tell them we need to know before we donate, that would speed things up.

Yea I think these ideas are getting blown out of scale. I have a marketing degree and dont understand why some of these things have gotten as much attention as they did.

If a team wants to help and give us a great deal that is one thing. If it is just an expense of 2 million a month to try to get some rednecks to hear about Ron Paul that is a waste. Most of them have already voted for Huckabee.

I have a marketing degree, do you have any idea how good a message I could get across for 2 million a month? Heck even 200 grand a month should reach tons and give them information about Ron Paul. Not just a logo like a powertool or beer company.

I think its 2 million pairs of eyeballs per race not 2 million bucks, but it's still too expensive. Huck's got the redneck vote sewn up anyway.

It's 2 million viewers per face, as previously stated. The cost is 300K.

Huck might have the nascar fanbase sewn up because they don't know anything about Ron Paul. I asked a 'redneck' buddy of mine a few days ago what he thought of Ron Paul, and he just gave me this weird stare, as if I had recommended a beer he had never tried. I should note that he doesn't use a computer (this is not an intelligence issue, he just spends most of his money on guns, not electronic technology, so, in effect, he hasn't had the youtube experience we have).

I don't think the blimp was a mistake, and I don't think this idea would be a mistake. In my opinion, this is just another fresh campaign idea thought up by a Ron Paul supporter.

Another positive effect is that those who weren't planning on voting at all might open up to the idea of limited federal government (very popular here in the south). From what I gather talking to people down here, there are 2 things very pleasing to the ears:

(1) A strong national defense (sadly, some construe this as a strong, pre-emptive offense); and (2) limited government control. Only the former is a bit harder to explain from Ron Paul's standpoint, when everyone is used to a Bush-republican style of 'defending' the country.

I donated a few weeks ago ($25). I can't get the website to work now though. Anyone else having problems at the moment?

There is a group, "The granny warriors" who are already attending races and campaigning with their RV's, and the response from those some quickly dismiss and generalize as Huckaholics is not exactly a cold-shoulder one. I would even venture so far as to say Ron Paul might even be popular in the races.

EDIT: If Huck does eventually drop out, Ron Paul may be able to draw in southern supporters on the immigration issues (McCain being pro-amnesty).

Update:

Looks like this idea didn't draw enough support, and they're having problems with "Chip-In".

I don't think we can donate to it any more, unless something changes.

Edit: Keep the Granny Warriors in your thoughts, though, they are doing a fantastic job campaigning for Ron Paul at the races.

The information you posted is old news. I'm not involved with this project but i've followed it pretty closely since its announcement. I believe they are able to take donations now and I believe all the legal issues have been worked out.

The deal they want to make is for 2 cars in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. This is NASCAR's second level series, below the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The Sprint Series has Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, the Daytona 500, etc. Primary sponsorship for the entire season for one car in the Sprint Series runs in the 10-20 million dollar range. The deal these folks are trying to get is for 2 associate sponsorships in the Nationwide Series which is less expensive. This series gets nationwide TV coverage of every race on cable (ESPN) and possibly a race or two on ABC (the broadcast schedule is on the nascar.com site). The races are generally well attended. Really, really rabid NASCAR fans attend both the Nationwide and Cup races when they are in the same location that weekend or watch both races on TV. The website has more details. They had hoped to sponsor an entire Sprint Cup car in the Daytona 500 and there are a few still a few teams looking for sponsorship but that would cost around 300-400K for just that race. But that race would probably get 20 million or so TV viewers.

Okay, well, can you get the website to pull up? It keeps redirecting me to my default search engines when I type "www.ronpaulracing.com" in the address field.

As far as I can tell this project is legitimate. They had some initial problems with fighting over control and direction of the project and setting up the necessary legal entities and setting up the donation widget on the site.

Their initial plan was to get primary sponsorship of a NASCAR Sprint Cup car in the Daytona 500 (next sunday). There were a few teams that did not have primary sponsors at that time. I don't know if they now do. They said they had negotiations with a major team about a primary sponsorship that would cost 300-400K for that race only. The 500 is the most warched NASCAR race every year and maybe the most watch race in all of motorsports in the US or maybe its 2nd to the Indy 500. Not sure. But it is a sizable audience for a 4-5 hour telecast. The team was locked into the race due to last seasons finish in the standing, the car was testing very well.

This plan did not work out and now the alternative plan is to procure associate sponsorship for 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series cars. This is much less expensive but will also get less exposure. The web site (www.ronpaulracing.com) has all the details of the sponsorship package. This would put RP's name on 2 cars for the entire season (Feb-Nov).

I agree. I just don't understand where all that money for super tuesday went. Whenever I ask here in the forums, all people tell me is about all the mailings that went out. $20 million worth of mailings would reach every person in the country several times over, so obviously that's not it.

I suspect lack of grassroots support and donation fatigue may prevent the cars from appearing on the track with Ron Paul Revolution advertising. The current focus is on getting associate level sponsorship on 2 NASCAR Nationwide Series cars. This is arguably the 2nd most popular racing series in the United States (Indy Racing League fans might argue). All the races are nationally televised and appartently draw around 2 million viewers per race (I suspect this figure is from the team that want us to sponsor them). The driver is a very popular one (PM me if you want his name) and he is featured a lot on SpeedTV (Fox owned) as a co-host on a few pre-race shows when he is not in the car.

Thanks for the update, ToryNotion. I believe this is a great way to get exposure (unless the powers that be blur our the hood of the car!) Lol.

Here is the NASCAR Nationwide Series 2008 schedule. 35 races, 30 on ESPN2, 4 on ABC, 1 no TV coverage (Memphis). The Memphis race was televised last year on ESPN2 and I'm really shocked it shows no TV coverage on the schedule.

Most NASCAR fans go to both the Nationwide Series race and the Sprint Cup race when they are at the same track on the same weekend as they are most weekends.

Serious NASCAR fans watch both races (and the truck series race) if they are not at the track. And they watch a lot of coverage on SpeedTV where our targeted driver is a co-host on a couple of shows. He is a very dynamic individual and very well liked by NASCAR fans. He'd be a great spokesman for Ron Paul.

redneck vote

I'm a lifelong race fan from Ohio and donated to this cause last night. NASCAR is not just for "rednecks" anymore. There is a huge opportunity to reach voters with this project, not just with TV coverage, but with a presence at the races every week. Race fans are fiercely loyal to the sponsors of their sport, it doesn't matter whether it's Sprint or Nationwide sponsorship, if a candidate takes the time to reach out to race fans it will be noticed by millions of people.

The races are held across the country and every weekend thousands upon thousands of fans converge at the track. Sponsors set up booths outside the tracks and there are cars outside that fans have their pictures taken with, either sitting in the drivers seat or standing next too.

If Ronpaulracing could hand out literature at a booth before the race, most fans will read the stuff while they're sitting in the stands waiting for the race and Dr. Pauls message is a perfect fit for the crowd. As it has been pointed out most people haven't been exposed to the good Dr. but when they are, they like the message.

When the race is over these people go home to family and friends with a piece of Ron Paul knowledge and I'm telling you, it doesn't matter whether the car crashes on the first lap or wins, Dr. Paul will get exposure big time.

The key would be to compete every week and get the meetups involved to man a booth handing out literature, you don't even need to buy a ticket or watch the race. Just show support by sponsoring a car and hand out the Dr.s message.

The sponsorship, from my understanding, is 300K for the entire 35 week schedule. 100K to get started....
