1979 F150 4x4 - Just got my hands on one.

LOL! I'm dying! That's the best curse I've ever heard and he never used a four letter word. And I feel him on the cost of replacement parts. I just had to replace a headlight bulb on an Acura and it cost $70.00! I only got that discount price because I was willing to order it and wait a day. The in store price was $120.00! I'm all for free market capitalism but a light bulb shouldn't cost over $20.00 and if it costs more than that it should last for the life of the car.

All car makers have "upgraded" to LED lights.

It takes a computer controller to make them blink for turn signals or hazard lights, instead of an $8 dollar thermal flasher relay.

In the case of Lincolns and Cadillacs, among other brands, like Acura I'm sure, that computer module is made from Unobtanium. It is not available at any price, and used ones can not be reprogrammed to work.

Now, I don't know what year and model your Acura is, but if you had a 2024 Integra for instance, you can no longer replace just a bulb or even a bulb and driver base.

You must buy a whole "assembly" and have it replaced if the LED fails.

OEM price from Acura? $1248.00

Fear not though. You can buy an el cheapo Chinesium unit for around $700.

Woe unto you if you blow out the headlight on your 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer however.

OEM list from Mopar? $2820.00

I won't expect you to watch all four episodes, but, just take a look at the frustration that builds when computer modules go wrong in a modern car.

And I've talked to Ivan, he pinpointed an obscure electronic failure on my Grand Cherokee for me, and the man is diagnostic genius.

And this Lincoln MKS had him tearing his hair out.

I'm sure regulations had a part to play, but I put a lot of blame on idiot consumers for these monstrosities.

Idiot consumers love their ridiculous headlight shapes and they demand a brand new shape every few years. People will get excited about a car because it comes out with some stupid new headlight shape.

People treat cars like designer fashion accessories, and the manufacturers are happy to oblige

There used to be a joke "How many (fill-in-the-group) does it take to change a light bulb?" Now it's "How many days salary does it take to change a light bulb?"
