Here's what I don't understand about the GOP thinking process.
They've done all they can to ridicule, belittle, and outright ignore the Paul supporters. Now I'm willing to bet that a fair number of us Paulians are now or have been republicans.
In this upcoming general election, the Republican candidate is going to need all the help he can get. If it's Paul, no problem. If it's not, then they're going to need us (the last couple of elections have been decided by a couple percentage points).
However, given our die-hard nature and our resentment at the way we've been treated, how many of us would support a republican candidate who was not Ron Paul? We've been mocked, ridiculed, laughed at, and insulted by the likes McCain and Romney. How many would seriously vote for either one?
I'm betting that the majority of us will stick by Paul regardless of whether he gets the nomination or not. Even those that don't write in Paul, I can't imagine that they would vote for either McCain or Romney.
All that being said, exactly how do they expect to win? Even if we only comprise 5% of the voters, that's more than enough margin for the Democrats to win. Do they expect to butter us up or something? Do they expect that to work? Do they think that we are only differencing from them on minor issues and those can be smoothed over? Are they really that stupid?
It seems to me that the GOP has effectively signed it's own death warrant in this race. If they had at least been respectful, then maybe they could swing some of us to vote for them. Instead their schoolyard tactics in collusion with the party and the media has made it so that I doubt many of us with good conscience could ever vote for them.
Then again, if Paul wins this won't be a problem.
