10 Corporations Control Nearly Everything You Buy ...

I usually buy off-brand products because they're cheaper. Nothing weird about that.

Right but the only difference between lucky charms and "charms of luck" is the outside box. The factory floors remove one label and pop a new one in. Its the exact same product and even though you buy the cheap one its likely either sold to the "off-brand" made by the big boys or is just a subsidiary of the big boys.

CORPORATE FASCIST STATE
http://www.theburningplatform.com/2013/11/04/corporate-fascist-state/

There are 10 mega-corporations that control the food and consumer product market in the United States, keeping the masses consuming processed food and taking pills to counter the effects of the processed foods. There are 6 mega-corporations that control the mass media (propaganda) outlets, keeping the sheep controlled and distracted. There are 8,500 banks in the United States and the top 10 mega-banks control 54% of all deposits, control 90% of the credit card market, and control 80% of the mortgage market. In 1990 there were more than 15,000 banks and the top 10 controlled only 20% of the deposits. Too Big to Control or Trust. There are essentially 7 mega-corporations that deal the majority of arms in the world. They are the military industrial complex. They love war. They promote war. They profit from misery, death and destruction. The healthcare industrial complex is dominated by 11 mega-corporation drug dealers. They never seem to cure anything, but they sure can treat you with drugs for life. Much better for the bottom line.

In reality, less than 50 mega-corporations control our lives. They control our politicians. They control our government. They use their immense profits to buy influence. They buy off our politicians with campaign contributions and bribes. They buy off officials at all levels of Federal, State, and local government. They pay for tax laws that benefit them. They write the laws and regulations governing their industries. They collude to further enrich themselves at the expense of the citizens. You are living in a corporate fascist state. If you can’t see that, you must be dependent upon the good graces of these mega-corporations.

Corporations control access to the market via lobbying for regulations and taxation. Small producers can't compete with million dollar legal departments and political favors.

Well said. That is it in a nut-shell.

Large producers can also use better economies of scale- meaning lower costs on goods we buy compared to having hundereds of small, independent producers.

Oh yeah sure if you want to keep going down the same road we're going--crony capitalism.

And Lobbying is just ONE of many possible ways to control the Govt from behind the curtains.

Does anyone think that if we had a free alternative to gasoline that Big Oil would not immediately Lobby to make said technology illegal, or at least bury it? Big Oil wants technology that gives them Power. And right now, Oil is just that technology. If they are the ones that are given the power to control what technology survives, the human race is damned. They'd have us all using Fukushima Power Plants in Personal Vehicles. And most of our Elected Officials only respond to which Lobbyist offers them the most money, which puts them completely under the control of the Corporations.

We all know damn well that most of Govt does not give a damn about what we want or what is best for all of us. They only care about what they want for themselves. They only care about validating the existence of their Jobs in order to get that Paycheck which then binds them with the Chains of Obedience. Many people are waking up to the idea that we do NOT need Govt to tell us what to do in each and every day of our lives. And that scares the shit out of both the phoney Elected Officials, and the Corporations / Mega Banks that control them.

Freedom of choice means that the cereal selection now extends to the entire length of an aisle.

On of the reasons I gave up on even talking to them was hearing a woman say that she would be perfectly content to let the government limit the number of cereals that were available because she found that making the buying decision was far too stressful.

Too much freedom = too much cereal = bad.

That's simply not true. The big manufacturers do not sell their cereals as generic off-brands. There are, however, companies that manufacture generic cereals and sell them under several different labels, but usually that is restricted by region.

So the company that makes the HEB brand corn flakes might be the same company that makes the Marsh brand corn flakes, but you won't find the same company making both HEB and Randalls flakes.

This, except rather than hating on corporations let's identify the real culprit: government.

And yet Monster likely couldn't exist if it wasn't able to tap into the existing distribution networks of the very people it fights for shelf space. The mind boggles...

And even the large corporations are in competition. Not only from smaller businesses but from each other. Coca Cola fights fiercely for market share with 7Up and Pepsi. Unilever with Johnson and Johnson. Nestles with Kraft.
