If he picks a fight, he'll get more airtime for sure... especially if it elicits a response.
I'd go after Romney and McCain... they are both very vulnerable to what Paul brings to the table. Also, confrontation will get reported on and highlight his opponents' "typical politician" qualities. Huckabee is really the only one that would be able to sweet talk his way around a confrontation with Paul.
Also, I agree with the sentiment that an independent run is the most likely way to win. He has a broad appeal to people in general and not as much with republicans in particular.
