I would not be opposed if the campaign preemptively announced he was not attending. They have internal polling and can assess whether the upcoming polls will put him in the debate.
If not, establishing the narrative prior to the media setting it, in my opinion, is essential.
I would hope no one would want a guy who endorses, or rather fetishizes, these views:
