As I understand it, once your benefits run out you fall out of the reported unemployed. So a side effect of the stimulus package BO was talking about, extending unemployment benefits would be that the numbers are more accurate, and larger.

I'd like to see them go the re-structuring and come out lean, mean examples of american ingenuity and hard work. That would be the kind of company I'd buy a car from. Looks like they'll just get billions of our tax dollars and keep on limping down their current path though.

You kind of stated my main problem with bailing them out. The automakers need to drastically adapt, and handouts delay/stop that from happening. Bailouts keep the same idiots in charge who drove them to the brink, not what they really need. Ford is a little different in this regard...
