Actually I read the other day that candidates who meet certain criteria (one of them being having served in Congress) are automatically approved. I think the "screening" is on a case by case basis for candidates who apply but don't meet any of the criteria. So it sounds like Ron Paul could get...

Former General Wesley Clark comes to mind. He ran for the Democratic nomination in 2004 opposing the Iraq war. But IMO the best VP for Ron would be a young, libertarian-leaning Hispanic female with executive experience. But I'll be flexible haha.
