Young voters flee Donald Trump in what may be historic trouncing, poll shows

WASHINGTON — Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is consolidating the support of the Millennials who fueled Bernie Sanders' challenge during the primaries, a new USA TODAY/Rock the Vote Poll finds, as Republican Donald Trump heads toward the worst showing among younger voters in modern American history.

The survey shows Clinton trouncing Trump 56%-20% among those under 35, though she has failed so far to generate the levels of enthusiasm Sanders did — and the high turn-out that can signal — among Millennials.

"I get worried about the bigoted element of our country, and that they will stick with Trump regardless of his stupidity," says Elizabeth Krueger, 31, an actress in New York City who was among those surveyed. She supports Clinton. "She is not going to be a perfect president, but who would be?"

The findings have implications for politics long past the November election. If the trend continues, the Democratic Party will have scored double-digit victories among younger voters in three consecutive elections, the first time that has happened since such data became readily available in 1952. That could shape the political affiliations of the largest generation in American history for years to follow.

In the new survey, half of those under 35 say they identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party; just 20% identify with or lean toward the Republican Party. Seventeen percent are independents, and another 12% either identify with another party or don't know.

Trump's weakness among younger voters is unprecedented, lower even than the 32% of the vote that the Gallup Organization calculates Richard Nixon received among 18-to-29-year-old voters in 1972, an era of youthful protests against the Vietnam War.

In 2008 and 2012, overwhelming support among voters under 30 was a crucial part of Barack Obama's winning coalitions. But that doesn't reflect long-held partisan preferences. The Gallup analysis shows that as recently as 2000 younger voters split evenly between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George W. Bush, and the GOP's presidential candidates carried their support by double digits in 1984 and 1988.

Now some younger Republicans, like their elders, are torn between concerns about Trump and support for their party.

"At first I supported Ben Carson, and when he dropped out, I was supporting Ted Cruz, and I wasn't left with much when he left," Serena Potter, 19, of Brownsburg, Ind., a student at Purdue University, said in a follow-up phone interview after being polled. Now, asked whom she supports, she replies, "If there was a gun to my head, I'd say Trump. ... He is better than Hillary."

The Millennials survey, the third this year, is part of USA TODAY's One Nation initiative, a series of forums across the country on the most important issues of 2016. The online poll of 1,539 adults age 18-34 was taken by Ipsos Public Affairs from Aug. 5-10. It has a credibility interval, akin to the margin of error, of 4.6.

Census Bureau data released in April estimated the number of Millennials in the United States at 75.4 million, surpassing the 74.9 million members of the aging Baby Boom generation, now 51-69.

LOL @ USA today, you might as well post Huffington or the Onion. Thanks for the state sponsored propaganda.

What polls do you follow/ go by? Or just making noise?

The bigger question is if the Millennials will vote at all. Historically, the "youth" vote has almost always had the lowest turnout.

Millennials are easily the subgroup most susceptible to the deep state's psychological warfare. They have them diagnosed to a science.

99% of young white guys hate Gary Johnson. His base. I doubt he get 1.5%.

Let's be conservative and inflate johnson's numbers.

10% of young white guys are voting for GJ.

50 year old black women are maybe voting at .000001%.

Overall no way he's getting anywhere near double digits.

According to whom? You and your backwards logic? Look around. It's you old folks that are the sheep of the MSM. baaaaaa

So one 3rd of Bernie supporters won't be supporting Hillary?

This shift coupled with recent historic Baracka VP pick by Jill Stein if managed to break away 20-30% young black vote away from SWC Hillary "bring superpradators to heel" Clinton also, that would could mean that suspected war criminals enabling lobbies are finisihed in 2016.

Way down in the crosstabs of CNN's latest presidential poll, we learn how voters who preferred Bernie Sanders to Hillary Clinton say they're most likely to vote in November. A clear majority, 69 percent, favor Clinton. Jill Stein of the Green Party is in second place, with 13 percent. Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party is third, at 10 percent. Donald Trump brings up the rear, with just three percent of the total—the same as "other."

Among all voters, she polled four percent.

Stein voters seem to come from Johnson supporters.

The interesting thing is that the size of the segment saying they'll vote third-party has stayed pretty stable. When the Bloomberg results came out, I pointed out that Johnson's 18 percent was probably inflated somewhat by people who wanted a third option but were more likely to go for Jill Stein. Her platform, after all, is a lot closer to Sanders' than Johnson's is. Add her to the mix, and the third-party total goes up a bit while Johnson's total goes down a bit;

The average millennial is a joke. The generation that's so concerned about consent is going to back the wife of a rapist because they're upset about a Republican who says some mean words, and too lazy to research third parties. There are important exceptions in millennials, of course, but by and large they are as bad or worse than the corrosive political slant in other generations. Hillary would be dead last if millennials practiced what they claim are their values.

Future does not always equal present snapshot. Once following is well known to young voters/MSM started covering GP's historic ticket in more detail, young demograhics will most probably shift.

5 best moments from the Green Party convention the MSM didn’t cover

10 Aug, 2016

The US Green Party’s national convention wrapped up in Houston, Texas this weekend, but you wouldn’t know it from the mainstream media.

3) Introducing... Ajamu Baraka

Green Party vice presidential nominee Ajamu Baraka, a human rights activist, writer and organizer, delivered an impassioned speech on the consequences of austerity, the rising homelessness among black women, the millions of people without healthcare, and the lack of opportunities for those who wish to work.
“There are millions of people who are prepared to do something different, who are prepared to go another way. And we are going to be there to provide that opportunity for a new day and another way,” Baraka said.
African-American voters were one of Hillary Clinton's strongest bases during the primary, despite footage of her referring to young black men as “Super Predators.”
Now, even though her running mate Tim Kaine executed five black men while governor of Virginia, it remains to be seen whether Ajamu can attract activists from the #BlackLivesMatter movement over to the green side.

I'm a gen Xer. I have no love for the boomers, but collectively the millennials have inherited the worst impulses of the baby boomers with a corrosive sense of narcissism that knows no bounds.
