Houthi rebels in Yemen say they have captured a large number of Saudi troops after a major attack near the border between the two countries.

A Houthi spokesman told the BBC that three Saudi brigades had surrendered near the Saudi town of Najran.

He said thousands of soldiers had been captured and many others killed. Saudi officials have not confirmed the claim.

The operation was the largest of its kind since the conflict began, the spokesman said.

Colonel Yahiya Sarea said Saudi forces had suffered "huge losses in life and machinery".

All those captured would be paraded on the Houthi-run Al Masirah TV network on Sunday, he added.

MBS will be saying it will happen right up until he flees the country.

He thought he could consolidate all the power into his family, instead of sharing it with the other four families as had always been done.
It was a paranoid move, and a sign of weakness.

Dude, three brigades, to be broadcast tomorrow? That's the live ones? That's 6,000 - 33,000 hostages! They claim to have captured hundreds of vehicles too, combining infantry, technicals, cruise missiles and drones.

They have the option to massacre thousands if any body tries anything stupid now.

I predict Saudi Arabias next move is going to be a widespread crack down on Houthi sympathizers, to try and even the hostage count.

Bad move again, Wreckless. Can't wait to explain to you why. later.

Last time something this major happened (if true) is when ISIS just appeared out of nowhere one day and flash grabbed everything.

It could have been one of the great power moves of history if he wasn't so incompetent about ruling the country.
It's the Yemen war and his other misadventures like the Qatar fiasco and his ineffectual plans to remake the economy that will bring him down not the game of thrones.

The prisoners will starve first if the Saudis keep starving the people.

He did not understand the other thrones weren't gone, and willing to work with the Houthi.
But you are right. Had he not played games with his military (hes a gamer), he may have pulled off the consolidation.

No way, The prisoners are worth feeding.
I mean they all are about to go on a diet for sure (unless they join the Houthi, which is a real possibility many will).
But alive they are the sword of Damacles. Because Saudi Arabia doesn't have nearly that many Houthi prisoners.

That's the problem with hostages, you have to decide what's worth expending them.

And that's why you don't execute prisoners of war. It has nothing to do with morality.
Feed them well enough, they may just turn.

Sun Tzu says that is the best outcome. Says turning your enemies is what you should strive for, not killing them. Acme of excellence.

It looks like most are not uniformed Saudi soldiers, but Saudi proxies that have been captured, but there are definitely hundreds of uniformed Saudi soldiers in there as well, so they may all be, we shall find out more soon.

For those who do not follow, Sudan has also been heavily involved on the side of Saudi Arabia, and has lost thousands of soldiers.
