Ron Paul claims US troops are in 130 countries and that they have 900 bases around the world.

According to this WSJ article, though, the US only has 20 large bases and 12 medium bases around the world and the rest are small bases. Also, the US only has +9K troops in 7 countries, 1k troops in 5 countries, and less than 1k troops in 4 counties (16 total).

Is Ron Paul exaggerating the US's troop and base presence around the world?

Given the incomplete figures available from the Pentagon, Paul’s topline figures -- 130 nations, 900 bases -- are plausible when active military operations are included. "My eyebrows were raised many times" during the debate, Pike said, but this comment "was not one of those times."

Still, we think it’s worth pointing out that many of the personnel deployments and facilities included in Paul’s number are fairly minimal in nature. On balance, we rate Paul’s statement Mostly True.

No, it's not "fantasy". Also, you could have just "googled" it and found your answer. ;)

Wow, Kudos to the OP... I had my doubts at times but now I know how awesomely true it is.

THanks again Braggbear

Politifact or Factcheck fact checked it and found it 'mostly true' given that definitions of both 'base' and 'country' were fuzzy. (I had no clue there were fuzzy countries.)

So WSJ just supports the MIC and doesn't like Ron saying that. What else is new?

oops! someone already posted that!

I've pretty much learned that I don't have to question what Ron Paul says.

Absolutely.

Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudia Arabia + Kingdom Holding Company... 7 percent ownership of News Corporation who owns Dow Jones, publishers of The Wall Street Journal.

Just gotta follow the money and there is a lot, perhaps the most, in the military industrial complex. Also, we can't upset our puppet regime of Saudi Arabia because they are the only reason the dollar remained the world's reserve currency after the breakdown of the Bretton Woods Agreement.

"Then there's Mr. Paul's line about U.S. forces being "in 130 countries." Really? The truth is that American soldiers are in even more countries than that"
&
"But to say, as Congressman Paul does, that we're in 130 countries isn't just factually inaccurate. It's absurd."

I'd say the only "fantasy" is with your writers @ WSJ. Perhaps delusional would be a more accurate description.

Kind Regards,

Wait a second... Murdoch's WSJ attacks Ron Paul, lies about Military-Industrial Complex? What's next, an article on how the bailouts actually made money for taxpayers?
