How do we win bitter neo-con votes that are determined to vote for a Democrat over Rand Paul?

first of all, why are they voting neo-con in the first place? what issues matter most?

second of all, how can we convince them the democratic ideals that they ALREADY disagree with are too important to concede their vote to a Democrat.

neo-cons don't have actual voters...they have people that vote for Republicans that claim to be for smaller government, only to be stabbed in the back once they're in office.

That's one good thing about "Jack Tough" winning... most of the party are going to rally around Rand. I don't think there was a danger of too much bolting from the party but Mongiardo's influence with the conservative Democrats was more of a question mark.

There's no way they're going to rally around a pro-choice, pro-Obamacare, pro-Cap and Trader.

Some, like Lisa Graas, are impossible to redeem.

I am sure others hate Obama more than they hate Rand Paul, and if Conway is linked to Obama, that will hurt him.

well, what if they're not supportive of fiscal conservatism? how do i win over my friends?

Well then i would say they're not really republicans, but if mentioning Rand's pro-life position, James Dobson endorsment, and his pro-2nd amendment stances doesn't sway them then nothing will.

They might stay home but I sincerely doubt many of them will vote for the democrat. The key will be winning enough registered democrats.

Everybody in this race is claiming to be a fiscal conservative even if they really aren't. Trey Grayson made (false) claims about cutting spending. He said he was against Obamacare and bailouts. The democratic nominee (Conway) only has economic issues on his website and he says he's against bailouts, wants to cut taxes, regulations and the deficit. He wants increases on spending on small business loans, "Wall Street reform" and a "windfall tax on TARP bonuses". Here's an interesting quote:

CHALLENGING MCCONNELL TO STOP DEFENDING WALL STREET

In April when Republican Leader and Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell had the audacity actually to defend big banks while claiming to be stopping bailouts, Jack immediately called on McConnell to stop blocking Wall Street reform and join bipartisan efforts to fix the financial system.

So the battle will be over who's "Wall Street Reform" will be better for the country. I think a Grayson supporter will have a hard time going along with attacks against Grayson's mentor McConnell. Rand is in a perfect position to offer a type of "Wall Street Reform" that isn't tax increases and socialism.

Jack Conway supports the health care bill. That puts him opposite of just about every republican voter on the planet. And that is something Trey and Rand agreed on. Conway is against any privatization of Social Security. I'm not sure what Grayson's position is on that. But the news that Social Security this year started paying out as much as it was taking in is proof that the current system is not viable.

There aren't any issues off the top of my head that would make a republican vote for Conway.

The neoconservative, evangelical theocratic wing of the party was pushing Tim Burns hard in PA-12, and so far it's not looking good.

Perhaps it is they, who should reach out to...us?

I don't know. We'll certainly have to win some over, but I think once they see the Paul/Conway contrast, it will be to Paul's advantage.

Speaking of neoclowns, Allahpundit's tears taste so yummy and sweet!

So there’s your “tea party” storyline tomorrow morning, although I’m not sure it’s one many of the HA faithful wanted. It’s cool to think that Alex Jones will now have a pipeline to the Senate too instead of just the House, huh?

They are getting further and further marginalized, aren't they?

Look, it is THEY who refuse to work with us because we are foreign policy conservatives whereas they are foreign policy liberals.

They want our help supporting their candidates? Quit treating us like assholes. Tonight demonstrated that traditional conservatives can blow a moderate candidate out of the water. And we'll leave Conway in the dust in November, with or without their help, though we'd like to ask for it, and receive it, if possible

That + ∞

The key to politics is connecting with people on the ground they stand, not the ground you stand. You must show them how your candidate represents them.

Didn't they also push Scott Brown? They won, but look what they got. yuk.

thanks for your comments, guys.

me either. but these people SOUND serious. we've got to get inside their heads, give them an honest listen and figure out whats truly important to them. what issues do they vote on?

i agree... its hard to convince people to change their idealogy or morals. the key, again, is figuring out what appeals most to the neo-con voter than a democrat like jack conway is against. we must make conway a worse choice than rand paul.

Yes, I agree. Ever been to a Leadership Institute seminar? I swear I've heard that there before.

Frankly, I'm still in shock at the beating Tim Burns took in Murtha's district. I thought all the heavy pushing from Levin and Hannity and crew would push him over the top.

Perhaps they should have turned to.....traditional conservatives? I don't know.
