Here's my comment on the article.

"If I know anything about Dr Paul from following his career these last 8 years, he would actually grimace at taxpayer dollars being used to pay for it!" LOL :D

and he probably wouldn't accept it from Obama anyway

I would happily kick in to pay for a "Supporters of Liberty Medal of Freedom" for Dr. Paul.

But from a practical standpoint, maybe a vacation in Fiji for Ron and Carol would be better appreciated! (besides, he could drink Fiji water at the source!! :D)

Actually everyone in this thread has the idea. Get him the nomination. Have him at the presentation ceremony turn it down. Have a donated, supported funded, medal awarded and the he can explain why he will accept the donated medal vs. the federal one.

americans like their crown, such a stunt would only anger them.

What about a pitch in for a donated one commissioned by us? One actually made of gold by the way. A sitting US president who doesn't follow the Constittuion and work to defend our liberties is just another baffoon in a office.

Yeah, but they are going to give them to someone, it would be nice if someone who actually deserved one got it.

great idea. Chip in for the cost.

I have been thinking about this since it was mentioned on another site that people would be willing to chip-in for our own medal to honor Dr. Paul. I have done a little research. Companies that make sports awards and other medals all have a minimum order. Would probably need a jeweler to design, mold, and cast. Are any of our Ron Paul supporters silver or gold smiths? I had an idea of a medallion size medal that is gold plated as Dr. Paul sets the "gold standard" as a true statesman. It would have Ron Paul rEvolution around the perimeter with his years in congress 1976-2013. His profile would be in the middle. On the back it would read Liberty An Idea Whose Time Has Come. My husband suggested instead of his face perhaps a relief of the liberty tree from the rally. What do you think? Should I keep working on this.
p.s http://www.ebay.com/itm/076-GOLD-20...21121795553?pt=Bullion_US&hash=item337be2d5e1. Didn't know someone had already done something similar.

If we can raise $6 million in 24 hours for him, I think we can make this happen. If we share this idea with the dailypaul people, I'm sure it would go over really well. I would love to contribute whatever I can. This is a damn good idea.

that is a liberty dollar not an award and the maker is awaiting his final appeals prior to prison, potentially, because the Feds decided it was counterfeiting not a commemorative medalion. I paid for one on ebay, and never got it, but I sure wouldn't have been going to spend it. He had millions in gold and silver seized as 'contraband for counterfeiting'. It's a funny world where fiat paper is legal tender and gold is counterfeiting, even apart from the fact that no one was going to take these to a store and use them as currency.

I would accept it -- Then give a tirade and lament at the ills of your country and put it on the table and walk away.

between the time it was announced and the time it was awarded we could come up with a chip in for it, and he could say that is how it should always be done. Don't actors at the academy awards just get handed dummy oscars or have to pay for their own?
