Why is everything out of stock??

I've been looking into buying some kind of rifle (M1A/AR-15?), and everywhere I look online, not only is it pretty damn expensive but they're all out of stock!

I'm new to firearms and such, so I don't really have a good understanding of the market. Is there a production season or something? Or does this have to do with the "Assault Weapons Ban" I've read about everywhere...

Thanks
~Justin

There is a buying frenzy going on right now, based on the perceived (correctly) threat that the new administration and democrat majorities will enact new, sweeping, gun ban legislation.

This is especially true of any "military style" semi auto rifles, ammunition for same, and, to a lesser extent, handguns.

Ammunition has also been in short supply, especially surplus or foreign made, for a number of reasons, including increased usage in the wars and commodity price increases for brass, lead and copper.

While buying at the top of a market is usually a losing proposition, in this case I would say, get it while you can, cost be damned. That and magazines.

It will take just one mass shooting to push these bills through, and anything you have will double in price.

Yea, some wacko in Binghamton, NY (right by me in Rochester) flipped out. I'm sure that'll be used as a reason to trample the Constitution even more. New York is already bad enough.

But the most important thing to me is... is there going to be another opportunity to buy new firearms? I mean, I really really want to get an M1A (just for fun, seriously), but they're all sold out... is stuff like that gonna be around again any time soon?

I hope so...

It sucks our government doesn't realize that a lot of people want to own a firearm (or multiple) because of the love for the art. I mean it's like owning a more complicated Bow... culturally significant stuff. And why should corrupt police and an out of control government get the only guns out there for self-defense?!

Sorry
Venting.
lol

I'm thumbing through the latest edition of SGN right now, www.rguns.com is listing a whole slew of DPMS AR15 rifles for decent prices.

You can find 'em if you look hard enough.

Hoplite Inc. in KY 502 955 5014 is listing a new Springfield Armory M1 for $1099

Build an AR. The parts can still be had very easily.

Just buy an AR Lower receiver and upper receiver separately. Or build it piece by piece. You'll be more satisfied with it that way anyway, believe me.

Is it decently easy to do? I'm definitely a do-it-yourself type, but I have no real knowledge of firearms. If it's do-able for a newbie, would it save me money or produce a better rifle? Otherwise I don't know if it would be completely worth my time...

I know this is off topic, but what do you think would be a better investment? What's the "better" rifle in terms of ammo cost/availability, reliability, quality?
Sorry to drain you guys with so many questions lol
But if you're willing, thanks a lot.

Geez, that's like asking a women "which is the better pair of shoes"? :D

My own personal opinion is that the DSA line of FN/FAL rifles in .308 is by far away the best in value, reliability and availability.

My other personal opinion is that a "battle rifle" in .22 caliber is an ironic joke.

.30 caliber or don't bother, is the way I see it.

Ahaha yea, I figured.

I haven't really checked DSA out, though.

And I've always thought .22 for carbines is a little useless... I mean, they're used for varmint hunting right? lol

Hubby had a new Bushmaster, traded privately for it.

Then, he went into a gun shop and found a Sabre for $1150 out the door (BEFORE the post-election price gouging).

You can find them, but alot of people started buying as soon as O won the election. Then, they began buying ammo, as the dems are planning to stamp it all soon, or tax it to hell.

Look at Classifieds at AR15.com or buy from guns America...I don't know what you are calling expensive, but any decent AR, even pre election were around $1000. The classifieds is a good place, though...hubby is a member there if you need help, his name is Tantrix.

At gunsamerica, you can sort through price...but watch what you buy...like you don't want to buy Olympic Arms(OLY)....it'd be better to just not buy anything..the onlything not an arm and a leg that is decent right now is Bushmaster, DPMS, RRA, Armalite, Stag, S&W...those are all mid range.

Like I said, sign up at AR15.com, and contact hubby...he knows ALOT about guns. ALOT.

These will cost you though, just be prepared for that.

Cheapest rifle they got right now is around $1700 IIRC.

And yeah, the .223 Remington was developed from the .222 as a flat shooting, high speed "varmint" round, which found it's way into Eugene Stoner's rifle at Armalite, the reason was that more rounds could be carried by an an average infantryman.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Except for the fact that some of us can get some stuff, out of stock has the same effect as a ban - people who want it, can't get it.

I dunno AntiFed; last time I tried using a #3 Phillips driver on a #1 Phillips head screw, it didna work so well. I always thought 'each tool as appropriate to the job' as a rule of thumb.

I have a 30-30, a 12gu, a 30-06 bolty, a .223 Colt HBAR AR, a .22lr, a .40S&W, a .32 ACP, and if I can save enough money fast enough; I found a shorty AR that fires .40 S&W that I want BAD.

Each tool for it's job. 8-)

Don't use a huge Phillips driver on a tiny screw--it doesn't work. To me, complaining about the uselessness of the 5.56 NATO is like complaining about the uselessness of a small screwdriver. ;)

Awww man... man, this does NOT sound good for me.... not at all..

I really want a rifle, but I'm broke right now, not to mention I can't work because I have two hernias and have to get surgery May 1st... I don't know what to do.

It seems like by the time I'm able to work (pshh even be able to find a job around here) everything will be over.

Ughh and I find out that in subsidized housing (public housing) you can't own a gun?
Do you guys know if that's true??

Got a stag 2t brand new at a pawn shop for $920 a month ago. Probably the deal of a life time.

If you aren't a f*cking narc, which I suspect you are...

Your best bet for a defense weapon that's affordable is an SKS.
7.62x39mm. You can probably find one for $300 - $350. That's the cheapest your going to get for a lethal assault weapon.

Goto gunbroker.com and search. It doesn't take a rocket scientist.
If you want a AR platform rifle, goto DPMSINC.COM...they mil spec, but overall, they are garbage compared to what's out there. You get what you pay for.

Try posting in the other forums before you get 'love' from around here. We know the bad guys are here looking for 'terrorists'....so forgive my crassness, but otherwise, blow a horn.

Hey...this is hubby typing now. Figured I'd clear some stuff up myself so she wouldn't have to type it.

Not here in Louisiana it isn't. Anywhere you live you can have as many guns as you wish.

Thanks, a lot.
Will do, as soon as I am ready to buy=/

Don't jump on Bushmaster as your first choice. Look around first and see what make/model and prices are available to you.

Yep...as I said above, Stag makes a good mid-range AR that will likely never let you down. Are they top-tier? No. Will they ever give you any issues? Not likely. Stag is a good buy.

I would have to agree here...AK variants have gone up so much they are literally in the price range AR's used to be in. An SKS, while not as customizable and as modern as the AR platform, is still a very nice weapon and shoots a caliber that will get the job done. They are also very durable and can be quite accurate. If you are really having to pinch pennies, go with a surplus SKS.
