Given the advice of FerFAL at http://ferfal.blogspot.com/, he's been saying that post-collapse in Argentina, no one was giving spot rates for any certified 24kt gold coin, dealers and pawnshops would only give junk gold rates even for bullion. With that in mind, I don't think that gold coins are worth it and am looking into buying gold chain. It's more portable, divisible, and more tradeable than gold coin or bullion. Does anyone have any sources?

Just google bulk gold chain. There are tons of places listed.

The one problem I see is they are not giving the weight vs the price per foot. The question I have is how are they going to know the chain is 14K if they don't see the stamp when you try and sell a small amount.

I could see it if you were selling stamped jewelery. I am wondering if the silver coins would be better. Problem is in storing them in bulk quantities.

That is good input on the value of the gold coin after a crash. Junk gold prices would not be what one would want to happen thinking they would be worth more.

Do your homework. The junk that coats gold chains is not the same that composes a .999 pure gold coin.

Of course. By definition, only 24 karat gold is pure (.999) gold. 18 karat and 14 karat gold is gold mixed with other metals to make, for example, 14K chains stronger.

If you were Mr. T, you could survive a crisis well :D

I think the idea about just rings is a good one. I think that FerFAL said that he wished he would have bought a bag of gold rings.

If you have a Dentist friend or relative, see if you can get dental gold.
