What rights do Canadian citizens have @ internal border patrol checkpoints?

I asked the same question to a border guard when I was crossing. The answer I received was "none". Just one more reason why I don't travel to the US anymore, even though the city lights I see from my Canadian window are that of the US and not Canada. Having said that, the one time I went through an internal checkpoint was on a greyhound bus in Arizona or New Mexico. Being the only white person on the bus, I found it interesting that I appeared to be the one of the very few people who wasn't being asked to show ID, even though I made it clear to them that I was not a US citizen. I offered to show my passport and they just laughed at me and said Canadians are allowed to be here, while proceeding to ask ID from the visible Hispanics. This was over 20 years ago now, though, so attitudes may have changed.
