I'm trying to get an idea of how many true voluntaryists/anarcho capitalists we have around here.
If you think we should have government, please post why you think that.

If there were NO government, what would stop me from killing you and getting away with it? I could take all your property, who would stop me? Oh, you say you would. What if I brought me and my hommies with me, then what?

I'm just trying to make a point. I equate NO government with NO law.

People used to have respect for others as a matter of their moral code. Those codes have been flushed down the toilet in many places. As such, we need some form of government to protect us from an immoral society.

If we dropped government, why would you suddenly want to kill me?
How many people does government murder every year? Compare that with how many murders there are in society. You want the thugs patrolling us?

Government=force at the barrel of a gun. You and I don't need it.

If I want protection, I will hire someone to protect me or do it myself. I think without government around we would actually have less crime as the criminals are all killed by their would be victims.

I'd like to add something. IF we had small towns like we used to have, where people knew each other, the need for government is less important.

It's when large cities emerge that problems in society start to appear, IMO. People no longer know everyone, and I think the bad people in society will use that annonymity as a cover to act out without fear of retribution.

It's also very similar to the pro-drug war argument:

"Without government, what would stop pharmacies from selling heroin to 7-year olds? We'd be a nation of drug addicts!"

Government does nothing to prevent drug use, or crime. We'd be safer and more sober without government intervention.

Many of the bad people in society are in government.
We need to get away from the notion that we need mommy and daddy government for any reason at all. They can't, don't, and won't protect us. They are a violent organization who steals from people. They are the mafia, with flags outside their buildings.

Those are the people you want to give power to?

I'll never understand why people hold anarchy to a higher standard than goverment.

Whats to stop you from killing me right now and getting away with it? It happens all the time. And if you go around killing people under anarchy, who is going to insure you? No one would because theres a high chance of someone getting revenge on you and blowing your head off.

Small correction I just noticed. In the options for this poll, it says "1776 and the constitution." America actually wasn't under the Constitution until 1788.

I don't have a view of the government. They are so far up my ass and in my pockets that I can't see them anymore.

Gradual privatization of infrastructure. Gov'ts only duty should be to protect against aggression.

Minimal government, in order to protect your basic rights and property, is necessary. Outside of that though, the law is only a scheme to make money, or redirect it into less deserving hands. The government shouldn't hold a monopoly on anything, so long as a private firm is willing to also supply the same good.

Abolish the government completely. Anarchy is far superior to limited government and limited government is not sustainable since government will always grow.

Those who appose voluntarism, here are some great books to read if you are open to the idea. Please give it a chance before tossing it to the side. I promise you government is NOT necessary nor is it beneficial in any way morally or practically:

For A New Liberty by Murray Rothbard - http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=category&ID=87
The Ethics of Liberty by Murray Rothbard - http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=category&ID=95
Practical Anarchy by Stefan Molyneux - http://www.freedomainradio.com/books.html
Everyday Anarchy by Stefan Molyneux - http://www.freedomainradio.com/books.html
The Market for Liberty by Morris and Linda Tannehill - http://freekeene.com/free-audiobook/

I disagree with calling voluntaryism anarchy. I believe that we will still be permitting a judicial system (albeit voluntarily funded) that would still be able to coerce us into not committing aggression.

Here's a good free pdf: http://mises.org/books/chaostheory.pdf

Concise read for anyone looking to see how anarchy would work.

Now that's freakin funny.:D

Seriously, I look for (and work toward) the day in mankind's future where the very concept of government is as alien and repugnant to people as the idea of burning witches at the stake or conducting human sacrifices to appease the gods.

Imagine a day when the monopoly of violence is broken.
