What if Huckabee drops out?

Does anyone think this to be likely at any point during the next few months? Does anyone believe he is staying in the race to keep RP from entering the limelight completely? I was shocked to see Romney drop out but not when I saw him endorse and hand over his delegates to McCain. Would this happen if Huckabee stepped out as well? Or do you think he would offer support to RP?

He didn't hand his delegates to McCain, he kindly asked them to vote for them. Huckabee would, probably, give his support to McCain, but we'd probably be the beneficiary of the votes of Mike Huckabee. I highly doubt he will drop any time soon, since I doubt he is aiming for the VP.

huckabee and obama have been frugal with their money

huckabee has more red ink than does obama. he kept his
resourses in a spartan manner to just the bible belt, it seems.
i must think if i saw a huckabee ad. i know i saw several
ron paul ads leading up to super!tuesday!

as a baystater i was shocked to hear the reason
why mitt romney's drive faltered. he dips into his
own fortune to the tune of 35 million PLUS! this
eclipses by a seven to ten fold factor the LOAN
hillary clinton just made to herself! evidently obama
has a grassroots organization, takes in smaller donations
and has technically won twice as many states as
ms. hillary clinton. i did notice that the states mccain
and ms. clinton have said to have won had intense
media blitzes and have a larger population!

I think there was pressure on Romney to both drop out and to endorse John McCain. If they squeeze on Huckabee long enough I think he'll drop. When he does we're screwed.

i don't think Huckabee wants to bow out...
i think he expects to run quite FRUGALLY in
2012 or perhaps even pick up a spot on the ticket
either then or now... john mccain on a personal
level seems to like him and huckabee himself
is that much younger than mccain so as to be less
of a rival to the distinguished senator and war vet
from arizona.

as a ticket balancer, romney's strengths are michigan,
utah and perhaps a few of the states in the great plains!
my home state of massachusetts is apt to go either
for ms. hillary clinton or barack obama come november, despite
the high standing mitt romney has with our local party people!

Actually, I think the top GOP leaders afraid that McCain might do or say something really crazy, so they keep Huck "just in case".

even if Huckabee bucks the party organization, coming up to 900 delegates
come the convention gives his a status amoungst the pros down the road!
does huckabee actually gain if he folds his tent too fast? i think it ACTUALLY
behooves him to keep on gladhanding as he keeps up a quiet high minded
debate with mcCain over the future of the republican party. if he tries to verbally
gut punch mcCain in a nasty way, that could really sour the party hacks on him now.
if he's polite but determined, he can insert planks into the platform. the whole
convention process has yet to be, even if mcCain is to be acclaimed by a voice vote!

He runs ads here in Washington, not exactly the Bible Belt. I am actually quite sick of them, I have to change the channel because of them at least every other break if I'm watching a cable channel.

Why do you say that?
If you mean the latter comment I say that because we've no hope in beating John McCain in any caucus/primary, but Huckabee does.

If you mean the first comment I say that because Romney was only slightly behind and it was very possible for him to get the nomination. I also don't think the arguments on the debates was real and Romney thinks McCain would make a crappy president.

actually i did see some neat huckabee ads, come to think of it...
maybe i sorta partially blanked them out because ms. clinton and
obama blitzed my airwaves more often... as also did mitt romney!

How in the heck are 2 candidates who have been completely broke for forever and a day able to run ads 24/7????

The GOP doesn't want Huckabee to drop out.. I made a thread here to throw a few theories out on why they want him in the race.

My take - he'll be in until the convention because if he's not in then Paul picks up media attention.

I think he's in to keep RP from getting delegates. The media will black out Paul regardless. Huck has no other reason to stay in. No money, just media propping him up.

Huckabee isn't in this race to screw over Ron Paul, he's in this race because he believes that he is the social conservative alternative to John McCain. And Romney supported McCain in the name of party unity, not because he necessarily agrees with McCain. However, Romney's delegates are not obligated to go to McCain, so it's likely that some will go to Huckabee, as Huckabee was always closer to Romney on issues than Romney was to McCain.

As for Ron Paul, he himself has announced that he's on the ballot in name only. He'll compete in Texas because that's where he has to be anyway, but he acknowledges that the presidential race is over for him. Sorry folks, that's just the way it is.

However, there is a great crop of congressional candidates getting support from the Paul race. We should all either run for Congress or support a Ron Paul endorsed candidate for Congress, because this movement is larger than Ron Paul, and we need to keep it alive.

Why? Why do you think he's in to keep RP from getting delegates? He has just as much a reason to stay in as RP does.

This isn't true. If Huckabee drops out then the media will consider the race over and focus on McCain vs Clinton/Obama. Hell, they're already doing this and Huckabee has yet to quit!

Huckabee actually has more reason to stay in than Paul. If Huckabee can become a big enough thorn in McCain's side, maybe he'll get something in exchange for dropping out. Paul doesn't have enough delegates and isn't doing well enough for him to get a deal. Huckabee has every right to stay in the race and to say otherwise just shows your bias. He isn't in it to stick it to Ron Paul. He's in it because he's the alternative to John McCain and he wants something in return for getting out.
