Debra Medina is testifying before the State Ways and Means committee in Austin this coming Thursday, May 3. If you'd like to see her zero property tax plan (the one she campaigned on when she challenged Rick Perry for Governor) get serious consideration, show up and voice your support:

Also, now is a great time to be emailing people who are running to represent you for State Representative and State Senator. Ask them if they support the plan. They made this candidate pledge last election cycle:

They aren't currently promoting it because they lack the resources to do it right, but nothing is stopping us from asking candidates directly. I've already contacted everyone running for my districts and have gotten some interesting feedback.

You are much more likely to hear back directly from the candidates now that they are campaigning in primaries than if you wait until one is nominated / elected.

Wow, I JUST find out about this? You should post this on the Daily Paul and other sections of Ron Paul forums.

Well, yesterday was interesting.

In the morning, Debra held an informal meeting in the Capital Grill cafeteria an hour before the Ways and Means committee was due to convene. She explained that the general public never attends these meetings and legislators had told her that if 15 people showed up, they would be impressed. We ended up having 50-70 people there in person. In addition, the Campaign For Liberty had issued an email two days before asking people to sign an online petition if they supported the initiative. In 48 hours, the C4L gathered just over 6,000 signatures.

I got to the Ways and Means committee room just as the meeting was convening. The room was already packed and standing room only in the back. I stood in the back near the door (couldn't get any closer in). Some of the lobbyists (suits) who came late and stood near me couldn't see into the room and were really puzzled by the crowd and asking what was going on. haha.

Debra was scheduled to testify last, but ended up going first when the frist scheduled speaker was late and not available when called. She read her prepared remarks and the panel listened. They did not ask any questions. The speaker who came after Debra also spoke to the issue of property tax problems and didn't push any specific reform but echoed a desire to eliminate them completely so that Texans can rightfully own property. The Ways and Means committee members asked her a lot of questions and she had answers.

I saw Glenn Addison (running for KBH's Senate seat) and Daniel McCool (running for Texas Senate SD-11) there and spoke with both briefly in the halls after leaving the committee chambers. Heidi Thiess (running for Texas House HD-24) wanted to attend, but couldn't make it due to a schedule conflict.

I had urged We Texans to post a FAQ addressing the common concerns and questions I was seeing in vairous corners when discussing the issue. They have now posted the FAQ along with a summary explanation of their property tax elimination plan and the history of it's evolution:
