Like them or not, they are very effective. All of the current ads focus on why we should vote for Paul. We need ads that focus on why we shouldn't vote for McCain, Romney, or Huckabee. Look at Swift Boat Veterans! Not only do they work by getting the message across, the media pays special attention to these ads! With media recognition of the ads, you have just received tons of free advertisement. Lets pull out the flip-flops of our opponents. We need to let people know that you don't have to vote for the lesser of two evils, you can vote for good. We can't rely on YouTube to put us in the White House.

I agree

It's time to take the gloves off! We aren't getting any press, maybe they will start covering us if we get in the mud with those pigs!

There's a huge problem with RP using attack ads: The MSM has beat RP to the attacks and in so doing if Ron Paul began releasing attack ads it would have the adverse reaction and people would think that RP was using attack ads because he's been left out of a lot. It would be like someone telling everybody that you were a whiner over and over and then you start whining about the person doing the talking. No one will believe you because they've heard that you were a whiner. I think RP's campaign is doing great. What attacks the other candidates more than anything is Ron Paul's message. Lets be realistic: Guliani is all but out of the race and I'd be willing to bet that it had a lot to do with the second NH debate. Guiliani looked like an idiot and Ron Paul got 78% of the vote. The bottom tear candidates don't offer anything against Ron Paul so that leaves out Thompson and Hunter and that leaves 3 Romney, Huckabee, and McCain. You won't have to worry about McCain for 2 great reasons:his mouth and his anger Mit Romney will only carry at most 5 states primarily because he has no real platform and is banking on the idea that maybe he could pull in the Religious right problem is there isn't a whole hell of a lot left of the CR after what Bush pulled. That leaves Huckabee. But Huckabee offers nothing new(probably why he's sounding more and more like Ron Paul) Ron Paul's message is consistent, honest, and well founded on constitutional principles. and last but not least Ron Paul is the only conservative running as a republican.

I personally am against attack ads. Usually they make us judge people for the same things many and likley most of us have done in our own lives.

I am sure somebody here has cheated on their wife, husband of friend of whatever sex

I am sure somebody here has smoked weed

I am sure somebody here has used a racist term

I am sure somebody on here hasn't always been 100% honest

I am sure we all make mistakes, I do not want a president who is perfect, I want a guy who knows what its like to be human and thats one of the many things that makes Paul great, he thinks like a person and speaks out like a person, not a politician. Let the other guys spend their time, money and other resources on such propaganda and lets stick to the issues.

One reason I say that is because Paul is popular but they are looking for every possibility to bash Paul and make him out to be the bad guy. I think he needs to be exactly what he is, the better man. When we are still alive after March and we head into the home stretch then it might be necessary but for now let Romney, McCain, Huckabee and The constitution murder Guiliani fight each other and lets use our resources to show the people how much we as a group and Paul as a president has to offer.

There's a lot of difference between an attack ad concerning an opponents sexual preferences/peccadilloes and one that demonstrates that an opponent's current political position on an issue such as immigration is, in fact, appropriated from Ron Paul and 180 degrees opposed to the opponents previous position on the issue. Both 'sanctuary city' Romney and 'consulate' Huckabee are now claiming to be anti illegal immigration and not a whisper is heard from the RP campaign. Tax Hike Mike is claiming fiscal restraint and not a peep about that, either.

I'll admit to getting a little fed up with Ron Paul's Mr. Rogers, Harvey Milquetoast persona. Like Jay Leno said, its time to kick some ass.

I think what we need to do is not to make attack ads for TV but have Dr. Paul call the other candidates out on where there logic is taking us. ie. so your for the war Mike...how are you going to pay for it with us in a recession, oh and by the way how come your answer to everything is to throw money at it be it Education war on drugs war on terror homeland security...where were you the fiscal conservative again? that sort of thing. he needs to CHALLENGE the others. to dare them to respond with something that makes sense. the rudy ghouliani reading list type of thing. just on a bigger scale like at a debate where they have to respond or look like dumbasses.

+1

Any attack ad that targets another candidate's personal life is nothing more than a smear tactic. God forbid if Ron Paul ever stooped that low. He is a man of character and integrity, and if you just put him in a 1-on-1 intellectual match with any other candidate, he'll surely deliver the can of whoop-ass that you're looking for.

May I suggest the Judicial Watch report from www.judicialwatch.org of the 10 most corrupt politicians. THis should be spread but independent of the campaign. Huckabee and Giulani are on the list and this is a non for profit watchdoig group. It really isn't an attack just states the facts. Also Hillary and Barrack are on it. Which of course would help our cause by bringing some young misguided Obama supporters to it.

I respectfully disagree.

Most Americans don't understand the problems the country has.

They view the gold standard as an antiquated notion rather than a way to cap government spending and balance the budget.

They have never thought about the cost of an American empire or it's effect on their personal finances.

They are not aware of the hyper-growth of the US Govt over the past decade.

They do not see that the US is moving toward socialism regardless of which party they vote for.

We need to educate the average American and make them aware of these problems.

Attack ads are good - later. Right now Americans view RP as a stodgy old crank who wants to move the country backwards rather than forward. We need ads that will turn this image around and get the real problems into the public conciousness. Only then can we attack the other candidates on being part of the problem rather than the solution.

Wow! Every Ron Paul supporter needs to know about that site and that list.

I know what the OP meant by attack ads. Kindly allow me to clarify by quoting from Dave Buhlman's RP endorsement:

"If terrorists persist in their cowardly murders after these changes, Congressman Paul will deal with them swiftly and effectively without committing thousands of our troops to the effort."

From: Former NH Republican State Rep. Dave Buhlman Endorses Ron Paul!http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080106/NEWS08/610250645/-1/news08

I suggested this 'attack ad' even before the Iowa caucus. It will make much more sense to you now, hopefully - especially after NH and McCain's win:

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The most important authorized video that Dr. Paul needs is one that explains his 'Just War' philosophy - for the specific purpose of showing that he can be tough specifically against Osama bin Laden (who is still alive after TRILLIONS wasted on the wars and thousands of American soldiers maimed or killed) hopefully in the same way that the 'authorities' hunted down the killers at the Olympics - one by one, ruthlessly.

The most important goal of this ad is to steal votes from Guiliani, and to convert them into votes for Dr. Paul - ultimately winning for him the Republican nomination. This ad is absolutely essential towards achieving that goal.

Storyboard suggestion: A man (Matt Damon) comes into focus. He says: "I am voting for Ron Paul. I completely agree with his "Just War" philosophy. Dr. Paul firmly believes that we should go after the individuals who attacked us on 9/11 - but not have to invade and occupy other countries in doing so. Some of you may know me as Jason (Bourne). There are many other Americans such as I (a crowd of Americans of different ethnicities appear behind him - each wearing dark sunglasses [a good Oakley product placement] and not smiling) - we totally agree with Dr. Paul that there is a better way of dealing with terrorists. (Matt sits down, hands out of view checking firearms - sounds clicking in the background, talking continuously. Camera focuses on Matt's face) Make no mistake about it - Dr. Paul can be as tough as I am on terrorists. Dr. Paul advocates a CONSTITUTIONAL WAY of defending America. Vote for your freedom! Vote for Ron Paul!

Dr. Paul then appears (not smiling much) and says that he approved the message.

Matt Damon is strongly against the Iraq war. If you search YouTube you will even see him stating that Bush's of-age offspring should also be shipped off to Iraq.

Some other minor actor may suffice if Matt Damon is not 'available'.

I hope this idea resonates with you all because it will certainly be pivotal for Dr. Paul in winning the Republican nomination. We have to dispel the common notion that Dr. Paul is a sweet, totally non-aggressive pacifist - he does look and sound that way, if we are honest.

The public needs to be reassured that Dr. Paul can be tough on the people who attacked us on 9/11. That is Guiliani's only selling point. Let's take it away from him, shall we?

If you want attack ads, how bout doing a banner/sign attack campaign?

Make our own banners attacking candidates with catch phrases exposing them?

I tried to post this elsewhere but couldn't. Here's my idea for an ad.

Attack Huckabee on Life.

"As a doctor, Ron Paul delivered over 4000's babies. As Governor, Mike Huckabee encouraged donations to pay for abortions when public funding was denied by the State Constitution, and Arkansas saw over 50,000 abortions. As a congressman, Ron Paul introduced the Sanctity of Life Act to overturn Roe v Wade by defining life as beginning at conception. Mike Huckabee will not stand up to the courts to defend life, stating "I respect that... under the Supreme Court, choice in mandated" (Source: State of the State address to the Arkansas legislature Jan 9, 2001) As President, Ron Paul will end federally mandated abortion on demand and return jurisdiction to the states. Mike Huckabee will not."

All of the above is factual. Have ron Paul; voice over his approval at the beginning, show "Republicans on Life" at the beginning. Switch between pictures of Huckabee and Paul as text shows. Have doctor pic, and other good pics of Ron, have Huckabee smiling or chuckling when 50,000 abortions is shown, serious/resigned to fate when supporting supreme court is shown. Huck has that smiling folksy appeal that needs to be killed, associating it with smiling about abortion will do the trick.

This ought to kill Huck, and Ron will become the pro-life candidate picking up Huck's evangelical support. Or Huck will have to flip flop and support returning jurisdiction to the states, which is a victory for our cause. No matter what Ron Paul becomes relevant.

Here's the story of Huck encouraging private donations for abortion - it's an incest case where he wouldn't allow public funds to support it. The ad is factually accurate and effective though, and having to talk about this whole fiasco is bad for Huck no matter what.
