LOL - Almost 40 years ago I pulled the same thing at gun "buy back" in NJ.

Picked up an antique, non FFL, Model 1891 Argentinian Mauser in 7.65 x 53 for $20.

I still have that rifle, mine happens to be in very nice shape and is worth about $400 today.
