This is misleading an attempt to discredit me. I know that insider trading is illegal, I am saying it is a victimless crime.
You discredit yourself. You were outta line, and you know it.
To claim that a man's assertion is false does NOT inherently impinge upon the character of the man. It is the stuff of discussion and debate. By contrast, "You are false" is the stuff of 'your mother wears army boots.'
Insider trading is cheating. You are as one who defends the right of a Vegas dealer to know where in the deck the aces and face cards are positioned, before he deals out the cards on which everyone will bet, because it's a free society and he should be able to win for himself/the house as much as he can finagle.
So you just want some egalitarian laws?
Nuthin' wrong with the principle that everyone has the same rights and opportunities. God approves. The idea the people are created equal is, of course, rubbish. Born with equal rights, absolutely. Equally beloved of God, if you believe in God, and equally protected under the law (except in countries, like here, where some people are more equal than others). But people are no more born equal than life is fair.
Lets just make everything fair so everyone can win and no one can lose.
Does everyone at a poker table win if the dealer doesn't cheat? There are always winners and losers despite fair play, are they not? A basketball referee doesn't have to "fairly" alternate between calling fouls on one team, then the other for one team to walk off in victory and one in defeat.
I say elsewhere, I suspect that the notion that all ickiness can be either prevented or repaired is the single worst thing that Do Gooders have infused into American politics. It isn't just unrealistic, it's impossible...you can only break the bank trying.
Equal rights, equal opportunity, fair business practices and equal protection under the law and people will distinguish themselves, wealth disparities will arise on the basis of all kinds of things...interest, intellect, effort, drive, stick-to-it-ive-ness, luck.
What we DON'T want is YOU positioned to gain ground, owing to a fortuitous blend of the ingredients just listed, then you getting bypassed on account of the slacker next to you has a rich daddy.
I still don't understand what a kettle of fish has to do with anything.
The example you gave of someone who overheard a "scoop" is life straightforwardly taking its curvy course.
Executives huddled over deals, then manipulating the market based on knowledge of those deals, is a kettle of fish.
A free market...stipulating that zero regulation is neither feasible nor desirable...works better than any system of commerce ever devised. It's workings, however, are predicated on the notion that there are neither philanthropists nor thieves.
One cannot create a sustainable market model that is dependent upon people's largesse (which is why taxes are coerced), nor that accommodates thievery. Lying/cheating/stealing throw a market out of whack just as surely, only differently, than overregulation.
Peace.
