Hey guys. Just checked out their website and I am looking forward to starting the group on my college campus if not already started. There are democratic and Republican groups/clubs, not sure about liberty. Have a good feeling about Students For Liberty. I can also attract people that are already in political groups ;)

Any suggestions or advice? Their website is pretty cool. First 50 kits are free. Have no clue how to approach this with the college. Top 5 biggest colleges in the U.S. btw

I would really, HIGHLY suggest going with YAL over SFL. Young Americans for Liberty will provide you with far more resources to excel, not to mention being a part of a huge national network. Check them out!

Rocco is spot on. A YAL group has access to all SFL resources and everything YAL offers. A SFL group misses out on ALOT of opportunities. YAL also offers a free starter kit and a $75 gift card for pizza to provide pizza and drinks at your first couple meetings. Learn about YAL here. http://www.yaliberty.org/

Use the info you learn on the YAL website to join YAL, start a group, apply or the starter kit. Then apply for free books from SFL and a free kit from The Advocates. Once you join YAL and try to start a group, someone in your state or region should walk you though everything and assist you along the way. If you have any questions, you may also message me.

I would also recommend YAL. My uni started a YAL chapter in 2012 and YAL provided us with a lot of great resources including a starter kit, tips and some activism materials.

You say your school is among the top 5 largest, so creating a YAL chapter should be pretty easy. First, make sure you gather enough friends to help you register it as an official club at your uni (mine required at least 10 people or so.) After that, we got a spot at the student club and activity involvement fair. Does your school have one? If not, setup a table at your student center or some busy spot like outside the dining commons. Follow the YAL table guidelines and have an email list serve sign-up handy. Typically, people will sign up even if they're only moderately interested. It helps if you present libertarianism around an issue college students are concerned about (like lowering the drinking age, the job market, making higher ed more affordable, etc.)

Best of luck!

I agree with all those who say go with YAL. You can start a chapter here: http://www.yaliberty.org/chapters
Here's a list of the material they give you: http://www.yaliberty.org/activism/recruitment/fall2013

There's nothing stopping you from registering your YAL chapter as a liberty student group with SFL too: http://studentsforliberty.org/join-the-network/

Once you have a liberty-minded student group, FEE can send you some free books: http://studentsforliberty.org/feebooks/
As can SFL: http://studentsforliberty.org/why-liberty/
SFL also offer this free kit: http://studentsforliberty.org/fall-resource-kit/

YAF is not really the same, more conservative than libertarian, but they do have some good resources, so might be good to check them out too: http://www.yaf.org/forms/yafchapterform.html

I just checked and for UCF there is kinda already a YAL club. Not really popular at all. They aren't keeping anything updated. Last time they posted something on their Facebook page was over several months ago and it doesn't have many likes at all.

What should I do? I found things from YAL at UCF from like 2011-2012 no new info basically. Maybe they all graduated.

I recommend making a polite Facebook message. Send it to the Facebook page and a couple people that commented on the Facebook page. Also, send a message to the twitter and 2 officers listed here. http://www.yaliberty.org/chapters/university-of-central-florida if no one gets back to you within 7 days, send the message to everyone else listed here. http://www.yaliberty.org/chapters/university-of-central-florida if no one gets back to you after that, let me know and I'll on tact the chapter. Thank you!

One of the YAL staffers came from this chapter and he says it did great stuff in 2012.

I know you want to get the SFL kit. You can likely join this chapter as soon as you connect the the President, tell the chapter you want to help it, and help grow it, and then order the SFL kit in the name of the chapter.

I am guessing this group is really small if its still going on. Sent a couple messages out. If its technically still a club for UCF, how can I basically re do it into my own?

They should of recruited people in a lower class than themselves to make sure YAL at UCF would never go away.

edit:

its twitter page

YAL at UCF (formally Knights for Liberty at UCF) is currently undergoing the process of registering with the UCF Office of Student Involvement. In the meantime,

UCF used to be a fairly large hub for YAL if I am remembering correctly. Maybe now is your chance to resurrect it!

YES! I will be there for the next few years and am majoring in Business/I have a good mindset for this.

A UCF alumni replied to my facebook message, he is now National Field Director for YAL. Replied with this:

Hey "me",
I work for YAL at the National office but I am UCF Alumni. There is indeed an active chapter on the campus. If you accept my friend request I will get you connected with the chapter leadership so you can get involved.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Welcome to the team!
Joshua Parrish National Field Director, YAL

he is the demo officer here: http://www.yaliberty.org/chapters/university-of-central-florida

Joshua is a VERY good guy, you'll find him to be very helpful. I am sure he's interested in getting the chapter going stronger and could use your help. Outstanding to hear you've found what you need!

you heard of him? lol I like this little circle going on tbh

Yes, I met him in Iowa and have seen him at the YAL Convention in 2012 and at CPAC 2013. Like I said, he's a tremendous asset to our movement. Helped Rand win the CPAC straw poll.

Hopefully I can jump to the top of this group. Really wanted to start my own, but I guess its fine...

need some advice...on if I should get into College Republicans...Their meetings are back to back (with YAL)...

Didn't stay for the republican meeting cuz I saw Romney shirts tbh lol But I might attend the next one

please help lol (I am independent/Ronpaulblican)

ABSOLUTELY get involved with college republicans. You should make it a concentrated effort to take over CR's with libertarians both by getting libertarians in there and converting college republicans who are fairly open to new ideas to our philosophy. The main goal of this is to get enough libertarian CR chairmen to get a libertarian national chair, who can then use the organizations vast resources (which include RNC funding) to promote liberty. We've made progress in this area, and as a YAL founder you stand to make a big difference in this fight!

It doesn't hurt to do both. I recommend avoiding leading officer positions in one if you're doing the other.

Since truthspeaker bumped the thread, were you able to connect with the UCF YAL chapter, randpaul2016?
