Does anyone know what Ron Pauls/Libertarian views are on a household tax/property tax.
I only ask because the government here in Ireland are trying to introduce this.
They are not really this to change our taxes from income to property but just put another tax on us as we owe so much money from bailing the banks out.

It's immoral. It really kind of implies that you don't actually own your property.

If you pay your house off completely and you don't pay your property taxes men with guns will throw you in jail. If you resist, they will kill you.

I don't know what his views are on the issue so I won't try to guess. But property tax seems to me to be ridiculous in every way. It is basically the government saying that something you own, is really just on rent from them. If I buy a piece of property outright, why would I need to owe the government who had no part in my buying it, or my ability to purchase it.

Well, property tax is a local issue (in the United States) - there is no Federal property tax (that I know of).

Ron Paul claims that you don't really own your home if you have to property taxes, from what I recall. There is no federal property tax. Most states don't have state property taxes either. As far as I know, pretty much every county and the vast majority of local governments in the US have property taxes.

Property taxes, at least in small towns in NH are the most democratic, locally controlled and locally decided form of taxing that exists. So, people that are all about local control, local funding and decentralization generally love the NH model for property taxes. Of course, in NH, the property taxes are instead of other taxes, not added to.

Property taxes are completely immoral:

A property tax is not only problematic, but is not permitted in Scripture, and should in fact be considered unbiblical. Only God has absolute ownership of property; He delegated this to individuals, and gave us a commandment against property theft in all forms (Ex. 20:15; Lev. 19:11, 13; Deut. 19:14; 27:17; Prov. 22:28; 23:10). God did not give the civil State any claim of ownership in individuals’ land. It has none, and for it to claim such a right is to defy God. And what is a property tax except a claim of partial ownership in the land? It is a system of feudal tenure in which the State claims a percentage of the value of your property, yearly, for the sole privilege of living on land under the particular jurisdiction. While this type of tax has deep historical roots, it is also deeply unbiblical.
