Sen. Ted Cruz dominated the presidential straw poll at the Texas GOP convention on Saturday, pulling in 43.4 percent of the votes at the contest in his home state, far ahead of other possible 2016 contenders on the ballot.

... retired neurosurgeon-turned-conservative firebrand Ben Carson ... raked in 12.2 percent of the vote, barely beating out Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who pulled in 12.1 percent. Texas Gov. Rick Perry came in third with 11.7 percent, while well behind him was former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush with just 3.3 percent.

The poll surveyed 5,266 convention-goers from June 4-7.

I can confirm that there was a booth in the exhibition hall promoting Ben Carson for POTUS.

I can confirm that there was a booth in the exhibition hall promoting Ben Carson for POTUS.

Me too, and they were really pushing for him. They said something like "all those other guys are going to run already, we need to convince him to run too"

One of them asked me to sign a petition asking him to run. I said I supported Rand, the man said "Well wouldn't it make it more interesting if he ran" I said something like, yeah, and walked off. I don't want anyone to run besides Rand unless someone is even better. Ben Carson is not, he is a media creation, and does not understand the Constitution.

The old man volunteering in the booth had never been involved in politics before (so he said). He volunteered to be there all weekend! He said "we just need a good strong conservative running." I showed him my Stand with Rand button and said Rand is my man. But then said "all I really want is a fully loaded veto pen. If Congress has a 11% approval rating, then 90% of what comes out of there should be vetoed!"

The NC convention was also plastered with "Draft Ben Carson" crap. Signs, inserts in the paperwork, etc. Even our hotel key cards were specially made with a picture of him on them. The convention swag was heavily sponsored by a direct mail company called "Relyus" so I'm wondering if there's a connection there. It's the first time I've seen such a heavy advertising presence by a single company with a tie-in to a particular candidate.

The North Dakota state republican convention also had a Ben Carson table set up. I only saw one guy working at it but didn't talk to him. No other 2016 candidates had a presence.

It was $300 to have a table at the convention. Cost them nothing to have some little old man sit there, pass out stickers & collect signatures.

Wonder if they collected donations?
