BarryCams Coming Soon—Please Read This And Comment

One of my dreams has come true. For a long time I have wanted to offer a video camera for citizens to record their police encounters and then upload the video to my website for my expert analysis of the incident. It's like having me riding with you the next time you are pulled over by the kops. I'm excited to announce the new high quality, and very affordable, BarryCam's. Click this link to view the high quality video of me cruising with the BarryCam activated.

The video was taken today using the blackbox model that mounts within seconds to your dash or windshield. This model is equipped with a fold down LCD screen for video review and shooting accuracy. The camera is powered using your cigarette lighter jack and when unplugged, can be used as a wonderful hand-held video camera with a recording time of over 2 hrs on a single charge. We have been using this model each time we hit the road and we also use it as a home video camera to catch any special moments. The video is recorded to a 32 gig card and upon plugging the unit into your computer, the BarryCam software automatically uploads the video to your computer and/or my website. I will review the video and then give you my expert opinion regarding any police misconduct. This model will sell for $250 to $300.

Our second model acts and looks just like your rearview mirror except imbedded into the mirror is a small television screen that can only be seen when turned on. This model is equipped with three cameras. One fixed camera, one 360-degree rotating camera and one night vision camera. This unit can easily be installed within ten minutes. The video quality is identical to the blackbox model and can be uploaded for my analysis as well. This model will sell for $400 to $450.

I'm testing the potential sales of this camera by asking you to respond to one of the following two questions. Please Comment:

1. Which camera is in your price range to purchase?
2. Will you make a purchase before Christmas?

Note: Answering any of the two questions does not obligate you to a purchase. I'm merely trying to ascertain how popular the BarryCams are going to be.

Peace,

Barry

Are there portable cameras that can instantly upload to a computer or server in another location so that the footage wouldn't be at risk for confiscation by law enforcement but indeed preserved as evidence?

Well this specific camera probably creates a lot of data so the files are rather large and hard to upload or even stream real time (if I had to guess).

But there is an iPhone app if I remember correctly that allows live video streaming.

Wow... since when did he get all tatted up?

Yeah, I'm disappointed. Personally I could care less. But he is a face against the drug war. He should be clean cut and looking nice. I do not see soccer moms and old people taking him seriously.

I would pay big bucks for a camera that either 1.) sent the video to a location that cops couldn't delete it 2.) was hidden so that cops could never find the camera. I am broke but would pay big bucks for any system that promised to be cop proof. I don't see the point in paying $300 for Barry's camera when a corrupt cop would just delete my footage, steal my flash card, or steal my camera.

Well if the rearview model is identical to a regular rearview mirror with no identifiable markings then that would suffice. Of course, cops may catch on eventually, but until then I think it would come in handy. I think once it gets so bad that they are ripping off your rearview mirror we are far down the line my friend and at that point I think it is going to be well documented about the new Gestapo/NKVD/insert totalitarian thugs here.

That was my first thought, they will just magnet attack it..... where will the vehicles hard drive (black box) be?

Yeah that has been my idea for awhile now. Could do it a few ways, one would be a usb port for a wifi access card( something like at&t or sprint ), with a battery backup to continue streaming, recording, audio only maybe, even after the camera has been "turned off", all with programmable settings, you would need a small cpu to run it all of course. The next and probably my most favorite is an extra ability on top of the wifi stream, that is a bluetooth connection to a small flash drive with a bluetooth receiver, embedded into a piece of clothing, a hat, another "dummy" device that looks insignificant ie extra battery, camera strap, belt buckle, really anything that could store it.

It's possible I'd pay that much, however, I'd have to see more information. As is one could by a cheap microcomputer w linux and a webcam to achieve this. The only portion I'm interested in is the rearview mirror embedded camera, as a cop seeing a camera almost invites aggression, whether obvious or simply in receiving a ticket you could have otherwise weasled out of.

I guess, the only solutions I'd want are those that are not obvious to anyone looking at the car.

You can buy home surveillance systems on ebay for pretty cheap, that are network enabled, you can then set them to send pictures to an e-mail address when activated, while the base unit still records the raw video, in this way, if you had a wireless usb adapter you could rig together a psuedo offsite solution. I have a ge symsafe 16 +1 which has that functionality though it is not in my car but could be.

Agree totally. I had a $300 video camera stolen by cops, and never got it back. The rearview mirror model sounds good, and seems fairly cop proof, but it seems they would eventually catch on to this. It's more than I can afford as well, but a cop proof video camera would be more than worth the investment.
