A day after former Surgeon General of Trump administration called mandatory vaccines for military, businesses a solution to the vax hesitancy problem and tried to push Biden led FDA to expedite Vax approval, VA announces mandatory vax for health workers to combat fast spreading Delta variant (that is reported to have viral load over 1200 times of the original covid virus):

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday became the first major federal agency to require health care workers to get COVID-19 vaccines, as the aggressive delta variant spreads across the nation and some communities report troubling increases in hospitalizations among unvaccinated people.
The VA’s move came on a day when nearly 60 leading medical and health care organizations issued a call for health care facilities to require their workers to get vaccinated. No federal law stands in the way of employers requiring vaccinations, but like mask mandates, the issue has been politicized in a society that’s divided on matters of public health.
“With more than 300 million doses administered in the United States and nearly 4 billion doses administered worldwide, we know the vaccines are safe and highly effective at preventing severe illness and death from COVID-19,” Dr. Susan Bailey, immediate past president of the American Medical Association, said in a statement. “Increased vaccinations among health care personnel will not only reduce the spread of COVID-19 but also reduce the harmful toll this virus is taking within the health care workforce and those we are striving to serve.”
Although vaccination among physicians is nearly universal — 96% according to an AMA survey — that’s not the case for many other people working at health care facilities. In nursing homes, only about 60% of staffers are vaccinated, compared with about 80% of residents, according to recent numbers from Medicare. And COVID-19 cases are rising.
At the VA, vaccines will now be mandatory for certain medical personnel — including physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, registered nurses, physician assistants and others who work in departmental facilities or provide direct care to veterans, said VA Secretary Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough.

Well that presents problems to understaffed VA clinics that cant afford to lose one nurse.

I could have sworn someone told me a few hours ago that mandated shots would never happen.

I had thought that was the White House. Something about they wouldn't mandate but they support state and local governments doing so.

Impressive. Two Trump references. No way to fit Jarvanka in there?

Because it's important that Biden is not allowed to steal all the credit for warp speed vax success from Donald "I'm Father of the Vaccine" Trump who laid most of the ground work to get vax and needles ready. It's too late to do anything about stolen election but vax credit is still in play.

Full context and role of major players helps understand how things evolved and why a very large part of GOP base/MAGA crowd lately appears to be in a state of disillusionment over what is unfolding despite their strong objections and disbelief.

Jarvanka appears to be linked to so many other headlines coming ahead (Pegasus leaks), his role in coronavirus management/ vax development project did not seem that impressive or fruitful.

The vaccine mandate 'tipping point': These entities are requiring vaccines as the Delta variant spreads

Last week, the US reported an average of 50,000 COVID-19 cases a day, and on Friday, there were more than 81,000 new cases, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data analyzed by The New York Times. The average case rate is the highest it has been since early May, according to the analysis.
The rise in cases has created what CDC director Rochelle Walensky recently called a "pandemic of the unvaccinated" with unvaccinated patients accounting for the vast majority of COVID-19 hospitalizations across the US.

California
California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Monday that the Golden State will soon require state employees and all healthcare workers to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or undergo weekly COVID-19 tests.

New York City
In a similar vein, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that a vaccine mandate would soon take effect for all city workers.
De Blasio said at a press conference that all city workers needed to be vaccinated by September 13 or undergo weekly testing for COVID-19. The mayor called September the "pivot point of recovery."

The US Department of Veteran Affairs
The US Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday became the first federal agency to require healthcare employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 within the next two months.

Private businesses
Some private businesses also announced vaccine mandates for patrons on Monday.
The San Francisco Bar Alliance, a group representing 300 bars in San Francisco, announced Monday that customers who wish to enter inside their bars will need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours of entry.
"Effective Thursday, July 29, it will be the official position of the SF Bar Owner Alliance that any customer who wishes to remain inside our establishments show proof of vaccination or a 72-hour negative COVID-19 test," the group's statement said. "Guests without these verifications are welcome to sit outside in parklets or other spaces we offer."
Bars in other cities around the US, like Los Angeles, are announcing similar policies.

The federal government has repeatedly proven that it would rather spend all that freshly printed "money" on recruiting new grunts and advertising for Big Pharma than taking care of those who are too old to keep doing their dirty work.
