US Senate Candidate Kurt Bills Struggles Against Incumbent

Keeping Klobuchar that close to 50% in a state that hasn't voted GOP for top of ticket since the 70's is good. He's just about to get into the 40% range and has 2 months to tighten this to even-steven. Most people aren't even thinking about politics outside of R-money//Obama but unfortunately for Bills, he's got a weakass top of the ticket and it seems he's more concerned about promoting the standard GOP line then speaking to his base to get money to expand into independent territory. The same republicans he's trying to prove to that he's a reliable republican are still going to turn out to vote for R-money and by extension, he'll likely get their support. He's already endorsed the guy so now just back off the bs and get back to pushing the liberty views that resonate with republicans. It would help matters if Ron stepped in w/ an email showing Bills' deficit to Klobuchar has been essentially halved and more people would be motivated to contribute to continue on the momentum.

I really wish he had not endorsed Romney. I mean, I just don't get that. And people say "it's political, it means nothing." But to people who stand for principle, it means EVERYTHING!! Bills will get the "I'm a Republican, I vote Republican because Democrats are the Devil" vote, no matter what he says. Endorsing Romney just took the wind outta the sails of his biggest hardcore support.

He NEEDS to start harping on issues that resonate here with independants. Things like NDAA, etc.

As an aside, around the Mankato area I'm seeing alot of signs for Bills, and many for other "down ticket" Republican candidates, but I can't recall seeing any for Romney.

In the same poll that showed Bills down by 24 points (KSTP/SurveyUSA from July), showed Obama only up by 6 over Romney. I don't see where Wenzel Strategies did a poll on the Presidential race in MN at the same time they did the Bills poll.

It was a mistake to endorse Obamney. I was going to max out. Now.... NOT!

if anything the Romney endorsement is going to help in this race because the broader Minnesota GOP will be more behind his campaign, which had been a problem before. of course he also has to deal with angering and losing the support of some die-hard Ron Paul people supporting his campaign, but I would predict that the end result will be that he gains support.

But the Minnesota GOP is nowhere near large enough to take on Klobuchar on a straight up GOP vs Democrat fight. For a Republican to win Minnesota, that Republican has to push themselves as something different, and endorsing Romney doesn't do that for Bills.

Were this a state with an R lean and a large establishment toss up vote, like, say, Virginia or Michigan, I would understand moving to get more Republican support. I would be annoyed, but it would be an understandable method of winning the election and I would accept that.

Minnesota is a state with a very heavy I lean, where the Reform party actually won the governorship at one point. Klobuchar is a left wing Democrat who paints herself as a moderate and is fairly well liked. Endorsing Romney and calling Klobuchar an evil Socialist is not going to cut it there. Hell, the entire Minnesota GOP could run a huge GOTV campaign and Romney could personally come in, drop Bills $2 million and call him "America's Best Future Senator" and he'd still lose by at least 5%. Beating Klobuchar comes down to getting crossover votes, branding her as a status-quo pro-Obama fascist, and being unconventional to motivate those non-Republicans to switch. Running on a straight party line will result in a huge loss.

I agree with what most of the previous posters have said.

If he tries to run as a more or less conventional republican, he will lose. Absolutely.

The only way he is going to get any edge is by showing how is different from the status quo.

Really wanted to like this guy... Heard him speak when he introduced Dr. Paul at a Minneapolis rally.

Obviously we were all 100 percent behind him when he talked about ending the fed.

Wish he hadn't endorsed Romney, really undercuts his potential indie support. But what are ya gonna do?

What's more important is that he makes some strong statements about personal liberty and economic freedom.

Right now I have no idea where he stands on a lot of important issues... show me you're better than Klobuchar!
Does he agree with Paul that all troops should come home now or not?

I guarantee most people don't care whether he backed Romney or not. But the people that do care are the people with the money.

Because he is so far behind though, he won't get the money anyhow.
