Hylton: Rest of South America has reason to be alarmed by future US military presence on Colombian bases

With the hemisphere fixated on the coup d'etat in Honduras, the Colombian military announced it would be opening up some of its military bases to be shared with the US military. This caused immediate condemnation from the leadership of Colombia's neighbors, Ecuador and Venezuela. Forrest Hylton, expert on Colombian affairs, believes that the two countries are justified in their reservations about the move, given the potential the base offers and the recent history of US surveillance activity in the region. On the other end, Hylton points out some discomforting activities in the Colombian military, an institution that is the fifth largest recipient of US military aid. With the US now seeking even deeper ties with that same military, Hylton concludes that "Colombia's increasing violations of human rights in its pursuit of counter-insurgency, doesn't seem to have any impact on the flow of US aid."

Our government is completely corrupt and needs to be overthrown.

The elite in America just can't leave well enough alone.

I am a white European male of many generations here in the US. My great grandfather was the first federal marshal in the Washington Territories. I want Russia, Venzuala, and other countries to know that when push comes to shove and we end up in a world war, I will not necessarily fight on the side of my own nation.

The ruler in Columbia is one of THE most ruthless in South America. That we would support such corruption to get our way shows how decadent our leadership has become. No different than Nazi Germany. No different than Stalin's Russia. No different than Pol Pot's Cambodia. They just have not unleashed on us yet. But you can bet that day is coming. We see it in the abuse of our own people. The US government is controlled by sick, demented, psychopaths.

Einstien said that the reason Hitler failed was because he turned the whole world against him. What do you think is happening here today. We have Russia and Asian countries forming their own unified governements in direct opposition to NATO. Sides are being taken. Those who are of the 'willing' are more appropriately called the 'forced'. Take a look at the recent post of NZ being threatened by the US - that if they do not give more troops to Afganistan, the US would not support them in the future. Black mail. When WW III breaks out, how long before they turn and run over to the other side? From S. Korea to Mexico, these nations certainly are not our friends and have deep resentment for how we have treated them these last 30 to 40 years. They bow to the powers that be, for the time being, but will turn on us when sh*t hits the fan.

I think thats unfair.

President Uribe enjoys 80% popularity among his own compatriots.
Property, individual rights and the rule of law are respected in Colombia.
He has reduced the strength and size of the marxist terrorist guerrilla FARC shrinking the scope of their criminal operations in Colombia.

And he is a loyal friend of the US against the expansion of Chavez's totalitarian socialist ideology....... what more do you want?

Let me get this straight. If World War III started, our country was invaded by a foreign nation and they were killing Americans, you would fight with those who were killing Americans? Is that what you really are saying?

This guy comes in with 10 posts and spouts crap like this?! Looks like a smear job or worse. I have noticed a lot of trolls, threads unrelated to liberty, smear tactics, and unnecessarily divisive threads as of late. I am sick of it.

Let us not give attention to these distractions and stay united in our our efforts and attention on restoring the Republic and the Constitution.
