A U.S. drone strike targeting al Qaeda suspects in Yemen killed 13 civilians, including three women, three security officials in the restive Middle Eastern country said.

"This was one of the very few times when our target was completely missed. It was a mistake, but we hope it will not hurt our anti-terror efforts in the region," a senior Yemeni Defense Ministry official told CNN. The official asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue.

The United States typically does not comment on reports it has used unmanned aircraft to target terror suspects, but is widely believed to be doing so in Yemen, a key battleground against al Qaeda.

Families of the victims closed main roads and vowed to retaliate. Hundreds of angry armed gunmen joined them and gave the government a 48-hour deadline to explain the killings, which took place on Sunday.

It appears that Obama is not a good shot. Doesn't he pull the trigger himself on all of these assassinations, or was that just bragging when it came to Bin Laden?

He reviews them a few times a week, I believe. So yes, he cleared it. Read an article on it, think it was Newsweek.

Disgusting comment:
Thats 13 less terrorists................way to go!!!!
Woefully ignornant comment:
Well the only thing is its not Obama's action. There are generals that run these wars for the most part. You have to speak up to your congressman.
(so much for commander in chief)

Last article I remember reading said they have a team that would research and place names on the list. Once your name was on the "kill list" the military could hunt and kill you at their discretion.

And yet, when I tell people we are at war in other countries, they tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. Do you think if Canada used drones in the US, they'd have a different sense of things?

Woefully ignorant comment:

You have to speak up to your congressman.

He does have a point. Our Congress has been asleep at the wheel. I hope everyone sends their Congressman and Senators a message regarding drone strikes.

It's not going to make a difference. All the recent wars have been blatantly unconstitutional, and congress has done nothing but continue to pass funding bills to continue it all. If anything would make a difference for an individual congressman, it'd be a one-on-one visit with them.

Just in case anyone might get the wrong idea from this story, it bears repeating: they hate us for our freedom.

Why is our military over there?

I don't recall a declaration of war...

Declaration of war???? I dont recall the scumbags in washongton giving a damn.

Dont remember soldiers giving a damn either..makes me want to join the military just to refuse.
