Former Rand Paul Staffer Enters Race for State House

WFPL News
January 31, 2012

U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s former campaign manager is trying to make a political comeback.

Chris Hightower is running for the open 16th House District seat as a Republican. He ran Paul’s 2010 campaign until controversy erupted around racist messages on Hightower’s MySpace page. The issue forced Hightower to resign. But he’s not worried about it derailing his own political hopes.

Chris Hightower resigns from Rand Paul campaign

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A campaign aide to Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Rand Paul resigned Thursday after racist images linked to the staffer — including a lynching photo and epithet — appeared on a political blog.

Christopher Hightower stepped down abruptly as campaign coordinator after a Kentucky blog called Barefoot and Progressive showed the racist images that it says were posted on Hightower's MySpace page.

Hightower, who had been with Paul's campaign since its outset, adamantly denied any connection to the images, and the campaign said he didn't post them. The black-and-white image of a person dangling from a tree linked to Hightower was posted on the site by a commentator identified as only "D," according to the blog.

"I definitely deny anything that has anything to do with that," Hightower told The Associated Press in a phone interview before his resignation was announced. "It's not me. I'm definitely not a racist."

Well, one... it wasn't Chris' facebook page. It was a Carlos Santana Tribute band page. He was in the band. It was a smear campaign but Hightower went away instead of distracting the campaign. Now he's back and getting positive press.

Only on here is this brought up.

Just saw Massie at an event...going to give to him :)

Bump.

Thanks to all those who have donated. I am thankful. I've been looking at my Dem opposition's past fundraising numbers. She's mostly PACS but the interesting thing is: she only had 5 individual donors in her 2008 primary. Of course the average donation was over $500, but it should show how weak her support is. In 2010, she only had one individual donor in the primary. She had 36 individuals that donated in the general in 2010. PAC, PAC, PAC.... that's her game.

She has already raised over $20,000--she had it left over from the last election.

The cool thing is she has a terrible voting record which I'm all over.

My main primary opponent has a big problem: http://freemaninky.blogspot.com/2012/02/16th-district-of-kentucky-jo-orange.html

Right now all donations received are going toward signs and toward a planned way of introducing myself to the voters (advertisement).

Thanks for the support!

Exactly.

Cheap shot, FrankRep. The articles you post don't make it clear that it wasn't Hightower who posted that stuff. It was some deranged individual who posted a comment.

Just in case you didn't see...... WE CAN WIN THIS!

Big development!

The local party picked-candidate has decided to drop-out. She was my only serious competition in the primary.

This means fundraising becomes even more important, as the Dem is already up $20,000.

"Clear a path, I'm going home!"
