I'm here in South Carolina on Time Warner Cable and so far it has been a mudslinging contest in the advertisements. Newt's PAC after Mitt, Mitt's PAC after Newt. Nothing pro or anti Paul yet. I'll keep you posted.

(This is by far the most watched program in South Carolina this weekend.)

2nd commercial break, no political ads

I'm surprised. This is a huge opportunity for politicians, no ads yet

4th break, still no political ads

All of the commercials so far seem to be national commercials (but again I don't really know). They are mostly ads for bad cable shows (Hardcore Pawn), Ford, Applebees, etc. No local businesses or anything. I'm very surprised the campaigns aren't all over this.

Those are National Ads.

There are probably very few local ads for sale.

Campaigns would buy local ads, if they were for sale. But there are very few of them for sale. If I would guess, I think you'll see some local ads during halftime.

You are watching your local CBS affiliate in South Carolina, correct?

CBS has sold most of the ads, and probably gives the local CBS affiliate some air time to sell as well.

Yep.

I understand how the broadcast networks work, I'm just surprised that there have been no local ads yet. The affiliates usually get one or two ad inserts per break, which means that they haven't had anyone buy the time, which means that the default (national) ad runs.

OR, because of the anticipated ratings of this game, they haven't let the affiliate have any inserts. I would really doubt that but I haven't watched the NFL that closely this year so I don't know.

Oh wow! Person of Interest won a people's choice award for best new drama!
