Some likely topics for the Univision debate will be the border, and a big part of the border issue is the Drug war. Some of our bordertowns are becoming lawless cities overrun by drug gangs. There are kidnappings, and murders going on all the time, and the drug gangs pretty much do what they want and are protected by the corrupt Mexican authorities. You could send 5000 troops to the border, and fight this battle for years, possible leading to a real conflict with Mexico. Or you could legalize drugs. Having drugs illegal is causing all of the problems down there. There is so much money in it that it breeds crime and corruption. It increases the crime rate from people either killing rival drug gangs, or stealing and murdering innocents to get money to buy drugs. By legalizing drugs, you would immediately take all of the money out of it. The supply would immediately outstrip the demand, and prices would plummet. A large portion of Marijuana users would start growing their own. Industrial hemp would become a huge cash crop for many struggling farmers in the southwest.

Drug use might go up briefely, but i would rather see people voluntarily ruining their lives, than see how innocent people's lives get ruined by drug crimes that exist with the current system.
