Despite the efforts of county employee unions, Republican Mayor Carlos Alvarez of Miami-Dade County was ousted from office.
Voters angry over a property tax rate increase and salary raise for county employees voted to recall the mayor on Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press with 100 percent of precinct votes counted, 88 percent voted to oust the mayor. The recall happened despite efforts of county union members to keep the mayor in office.
