An estimated 18,000 milking cows were killed, and one person was left critically injured, after an explosion ripped through a Texas dairy farm on Monday. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blast.

The Castro County Sheriff’s Office confirmed with Fox News Digital the cows were in a holding area before being brought in for milking when the fiery blast engulfed the Southfork Dairy Farm in Dimmitt.

The explosion rocked nearby houses and a pall of smoke could be seen 30 miles away.

Very few cows in the holding area survived, officials told local outlet KFDA.

The Animal Welfare Institute estimated the incident is the deadliest barn fire in Texas and deadliest involving cattle since the organization started tracking the fires in 2013, KFDA reported.

A giant plume of intense, dark smoke could be seen from the farm, according to images and video posted on social media in the aftermath of the event.

18,000 cows!?!? I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around that stat. What the hell blew up in a dairy farm to kill that many cows.

I have no clue either.

The facility was huge.

Maybe leaking gas fired pasteurization equipment?

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if thousands of cows suddenly mooed out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

If you read the right article, you would find that the cows did it to themselves. They burped too much greenhouse gases into an enclosed place (methane), which was ignited by some equipment.

This is why "we" need to outlaw natural gas. And milk. And farms.

It’s the cows that must be banned. They cause climate change, and it is evil to eat them.

Shut your mouths. The ATF will regulate cows as dangerous weapons.

Everybody is stocking spring fertilizer this time of year.

That could have played a roll if it was stored close to the milking parlor.

Clearly all fertilizer purchases must be regulated, tracked and monitored.
Just as a precaution.
Think of the children.

Also a record for the biggest Texas BBQ.

I agree..

Something is going on.
Someone is clearly pushing an agenda.

Really think about that number. Think of a town with a population of 1000. Now think of one that's 20,000. Sometimes it's hard to envision a statistic. That's a hell of a lot of milk producers! Something really evil is going on.

With all the food processing plants that have been blown up over the past couple years I can't help but feel TPTB were responsible for this.

Explosion, and an ensuing fire. They're hypothesizing that:
Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera told KCBD on Tuesday that early speculation is that methane may have been ignited by overheating electrical equipment used to suck out waste from the holding pens

I grew up in dairy farm country, but OMG I've never seen 18,000 head of cattle in a single location. Figure at least 10 pounds of straw per head per day for bedding and you've got an ungodly amount of nearby kindling available.

It was swamp gas...

I couldn't agree more. If they it incrementally, people do not notice it until it is too late to do something about it.
