So we have the US moving out of the way so Turkey can move in and attack the Kurds. Syria says they have reached an agreement to protect the Kurds (which assumably would involve clashes with Turkey who is attacking them) and now Russia says they will prevent clashes between Turkey and Syria. That makes it sound like Syria between the Kurds and the Turks (or alongside them) and Russia between the Sryians and Turks? Or are most of them BSing for political points? The conflict is certainly getting more complicated.

Russia has said it will not allow clashes between Turkish and Syrian forces, as Turkey's military offensive in northern Syria continues.

"This would simply be unacceptable... and therefore we will not allow it, of course," said Moscow's special envoy for Syria, Alexander Lavrentyev.

The withdrawal of US troops from the region, announced last week, gave Turkey a "green light", critics say.

Russia is a key military ally of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.

Mr Lavrentyev, during a visit to the United Arab Emirates, described Turkey's offensive as "unacceptable".

He said Turkish and Syrian officials were in contact to avoid any conflict.

And Russia's defence ministry said its forces, which have been deployed in Syria since 2015, were patrolling along the "line of contact" between Syrian and Turkish forces.

How did we get here?

The Turkish offensive, which began last week, aims to push the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the border region. Turkey considers the biggest militia in the SDF a terrorist organisation.

The Turkish government wants to create a "safe zone" in the area, where it can resettle Syrian refugees currently in Turkey.

Many of them are not Kurds and critics warn this could lead to ethnic cleansing of the local Kurdish population.

Dozens of civilians have been killed in the operation so far and at least 160,000 have fled the area, according to the UN.

Kurdish-led forces have been a key ally of the US in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria. They described the US withdrawal, which preceded Turkish action, as a "stab in the back".

There are fears the destabilisation could risk a resurgence of IS, as thousands of former fighters and their relatives are being detained in northern Syria. Hundreds of IS family members are said to have already escaped from one camp.

Some aid organisations have been forced to suspend operations and evacuate international staff over security fears.

Facing immense pressure, Kurdish-led forces announced a deal on Sunday with the Syrian government for military support to help repel Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan insists the operation will continue until his country's "objectives have been achieved" despite the involvement of Syrian government forces.

The US has imposed sanctions on Turkish ministries and senior government officials in response to the country's military offensive in northern Syria.

President Donald Trump also phoned his Turkish counterpart to demand an immediate truce, Vice-President Mike Pence said.

Mr Pence said he would travel to the region "as quickly as possible".

Sounds like Trump made the right call to me. What about you, Zip?

Would like to see troops actually removed.. rather than relocated.

Removed from the entire area,, and relocated home would be good,, but not in the continuing Agenda.

So would I. But, I'll take what I can get. People can say all they want about the lesser of evils, but we know damn well Hillary would have escalated.

Trump did escalate it. There are more troops there now than when he took office.

Paul's definitely reinforce Trump's instincts to get out of perpetual fraud/war in ME

President Trump declared Thursday "a great day for civilization" as Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced terms of a cease-fire agreement that would end violence between Turkey and Kurds in Syria, following a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
The deal is for a 120-hour cease-fire, during which time the Kurdish-led forces could pull back from the roughly 20-mile-wide safe zone on the Turkish-Syrian border. All Turkish military operations under the recent offensive known as Operation Peace Spring will pause during that time, and the operation itself will come to an end entirely upon the completion of the Kurdish withdrawal, under the terms of the deal.

You seriously think that the US is the only option to protect the Kurds? You know that's not really true? I think I just read that Erdogan who vowed yesterday that there would be no ceasefire, has done just the opposite.

Withdraw to where?
The Kurds are defending their Homes.

First from Assad,, though there was peaceful coexistence before outside forced interfered.
Secondly from the ISIS/alCIAda that was Created by the USA.
And now from a invading NATO force,, with Ottoman desires.

God Bless them for having persisted this long.

That's nonsense, they moved in on a lot of territory that never belonged to them, they have a habit of doing that.

And the other option is for us to go to war with Turkey for them, is that what you want?

Seems that Turkey is half Kurdistan.

They came from Turkey and invaded those other areas.
And we are talking about the areas of Syria that they expanded into during the current war, notice on YOUR map how little the area is in Syria where they started.

And the other option is for us to go to war with Turkey for them, is that what you want?

There are several other options..

What I want is for the US to Not be involved... To remove all troops and Nukes from the area.
I don't get what I want.. I observe what actually is.

I see a Clown playing in dangerous games and getting people killed..

I expect more of the same.
