Turkey expels Israeli ambassador over flotilla incident - The Washington Post

Egypt will probably join Turkey soon, last week protesters had removed flag from Israeli embassy after Israel killed Egyptian border guards.

One has to wonder about wisdom of choosing location for a new state with so many hostile people around and where another people are already living for centures. Israel would have much more friendly neigbors had its planners picked an unpopulated plot of land in USA, France,Germany or South America or even African Christian majority regions.

I know people refer to "international law"...what the hell is international law? Isn't a treaty made for the purpose of maintaining peace? It isn't a law but a contract correct? So what the heck is "international law"?

Well there was great hope that Turkey would be a bridge between the Muslim world and West. But Turkey is slowly but surely turning Islamic. The secular Turkey is going down the drain. Expect women that wear western style clothes to be on the endangered list next. Some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen were Turkish women on the Mediterranean.

Turkey is going in the wrong direction.

William, does Israel represent West?

It seems even more religious fanatic than secular Turkey. About half a million of its Russian immigramts are not allowed to get married inside the country and have to travel abroad for that because they are not accepted as "jews", same goes for people who want to marry outside their race. Not exactly modern values.

Israel has been going in the wrong direction for well over 20 years and no one in US politics has the balls to stand up and stop them.
I would trust NATO member Turkey over self serving Israel any day of the week.
We finally stood up to South Africa with Boycotts and public outrage, but boycotting Israel is a crime in the US and any outrage at their crimes against humanity are dismissed as Anti-Semitic hate speech.
The government of Israel is not empowered by God, as much as they would like you to believe it.

Yes it does. Israel is far from perfect, but it is a beacon of liberty compared to any Muslim country. I've traveled throughout the Muslim world and Islam is very backwards. Misogynist. Now that doesn't mean I think we should bomb or invade their countries. I'm on record on this forum that I favor limiting immigration from Muslim nations. Ron Paul felt the same way at one time.

There are honorable and moral people who do speak against war crimes and oppression. After 9/11 and economic crisis from wars spending, more and more people are starting to re-examine mideast policy stances.

U.S. Senator seeks to cut aid to elite IDF units operating in West Bank and Gaza

Tuesday, 16 August 2011 14:33

U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy is promoting a bill to suspend U.S. assistance to three elite Israel Defense Forces units, alleging they are involved in human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Leahy, a Democrat and senior member of the U.S. Senate, wants assistance withheld from the Israel Navy's Shayetet 13 unit, the undercover Duvdevan unit and the Israel Air Force's Shaldag unit.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, a long-time friend of Leahy's, met with him in Washington two weeks ago to try to persuade him to withdraw the initiative.

According to a senior Israeli official in Jerusalem, Leahy began promoting the legislation in recent months after he was approached by voters in his home state of Vermont.

A few months ago, a group of pro-Palestinian protesters staged a rally across from Leahy's office, demanding that he denounce the killing by Shayetet 13 commandos of nine Turkish activists who were part of the flotilla to Gaza last May.

Leahy, who heads the Senate Appropriations Committee's sub-committee on foreign operations, was the principle sponsor of a 1997 bill prohibiting the United States from providing military assistance or funding to foreign military units suspected of human rights abuses or war crimes. The law also stipulates that the U.S. Defense Department screen foreign officers and soldiers who come to the United States for training for this purpose.

Again Israel is not perfect, but the Arab population in Israel has a much better life than the average Arab in Jordan.

The entire Middle East is fugged up. Israel deserves blame, but the vast majority of the blame belongs to Islam. It is very depressing going to Jordan a good friend of the United States and seeing how backwards it is. In Egypt over 90 percent of the women are circumcised.

Cutting off skin of boys from the nature endowed anatomy is fine with you becuse you can rationalize it?

That sounds like double standard.

Good gravy. I'm circumcised and have always enjoyed sex. Removing the clitoris makes it well. Question, how old are you??

I've been to Egypt four times.

Female genital mutilation practice used to be common in African nations and still is in some parts, Egypt being in Africa would probably have higher ratio also.

Have you ever been to Israel?

ISRAEL
Current status: Falasha women (Ethiopian Jews who migrated to Israel between 1984 and 1990) and Bedouin women may be subjected to the practice of genital mutilation.
However, the IPU has no first-hand official statistics or other details on this subject.
Legislation: The IPU has no information on the existence of specific legislation.
Operational structure: The IPU has no information on this subject.

Male genital mutilation is much more widespread in Mid East, Asia, Americas and around the world.

Kid, I've been to Israel and it still doesn't change the fact that Islam is a misogynist culture. Women are treated as chattel slavery

So yer incensed that women have a tough time but killing humanitarian aid volunteers is OK because Israel is so far ahead of the Muslims culturally. That is so much of a contortion intellectually and philosophically that it is incompetent.

Criticize Turkey all you like under its Islamic influence, but allow me to scream this back on topic, DOESN'T A NATION HAVE A RIGHT TO BE UPSET, WHEN ITS CITIZENS GET MURDERED BY A NEIGHBORING NATION??? The ambassador got expelled over the flotilla outrage, not over differing cultural practices or beliefs. Good grief, if an Israeli ran over a Muslim woman on the street with a bus, would you spend most of the time talking about her burka? Address the topic, anyone?
