In a remarkable move, President Donald Trump’s administration has successfully reopened a key oil reserve in the Pacific Ocean after it was offline for a decade.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum led the charge to restart the Santa Ynez Unit in just five months.

The region is estimated to contain 190 million barrels of recoverable oil.

The reserve is capable of providing 80 percent of regional production.

The effort had been delayed for years under previous administrations due to bureaucratic red tape.

The Santa Ynez Unit, which had been out of operation since 2015 due to an oil spill caused by an aging pipeline, is now primed to become a major contributor to America’s energy production.

Trump has a tendency to completely misread California politics.

The vast majority of Californians do not support (near) offshore drilling. GOP, Democrats, independent, doesn't matter.

What could be supported is slant drilling from onshore facilities, thus eliminating spills, constant oil leakage, and ugly drilling rigs visible from the shore.

The coast of California drops off to very deep water very quickly, which is different from the Gulf of Mexico.

He's a grifter and doesn't care about anything but his own circle of freaks.

There is already a lawsuit. His actions violate the Continental Shelf Lands Act and the Administrative Procedure Act.

Too bad the green new scam zealots never cared about sea life when they pushed for all of the offshore windmills...
