Good news for travel industry as couple of 95% effective vaccines (without actual virus in them) expected to be applying for emergency FDA approval in coming few days. This would among other things be killing drum beat of fear being perpetuated and amplified 24X7 in media.

Travel stocks rally after Moderna's vaccine progress lifts hopes for near-term reopening

• Airlines, cruises, and hotels all traded higher on Monday as encouraging results from Moderna's vaccine trial boosted the so-called reopening trade.
• Moderna announced Monday morning that its experimental coronavirus vaccine was 94.5% effective at preventing COVID-19 in trial patients.
• United Airlines jumped as much as 8.6%. American Airlines and Delta both gained roughly 6%.
• Cruises stocks rallied more than 8%, while Mariott International and Hilton Hotels also saw strong gains.

Airline, hotel, and cruise stocks surged on Monday as Moderna's encouraging vaccine trial results spurred fresh optimism for an end to the coronavirus pandemic.
The biotech company announced Monday morning that its experimental coronavirus vaccine was 94.5% effective at preventing COVID-19 in a preliminary analysis. The update comes one week after Pfizer and BioNTech revealed similarly positive results from early trials of their own vaccine. While both candidates still need to receive approval from the US Food and Drug Administration, their supposed effectiveness suggests a nationwide rollout could come in 2021.

The news boosted shares of companies hit hardest by the virus and stay-at-home restrictions. United Airlines leaped as much as 8.6%. American Airlines and Delta both jumped roughly 6% shortly after the vaccine news.

It's amazing how a vague term like that has been thrown out into the public as if it means something. Was it just invented yesterday? Seems very Orwellian. A marketing term. "Don't wonder what it means, just know that it is 95% effective!"

"Preventing"? Did they vaccinate people and then expose them to the virus? Seems unlikely. And since there are so many asymptomatic cases, and people who are already immune, even that test would be meaningless. "We had these people eat carrots and 95% didn't catch COVID!"

Ya , I wouldnt be buying any junk travel stocks . Most people are never going to get a vaccine and the likelihood of it working is low. If the flu vaccine was so great would a million people still die of it yearly ?

In Phase 3 trials for coronavirus vaccine candidates, researchers won't expose any of the participants to the virus intentionally. Instead, researchers intend to enroll a lot of participants from locations with high numbers of coronavirus cases. The researchers will track participants in both the test and control groups to see how many contract the new coronavirus. From economic stand point, it's more about crowd psychology/market psychology than actual biology that will get validated over time. Had read somewhere that benefits of vaccine will arrive well ahead of vaccines arrival.
