With all the threads about how the "old" people are doing Ron Paul sooooo bad here is some reality...

Old people vote!

If young people are so enthusiastic that needs to translate into votes... Doesn't seem to be happening so quit griping and vote.

Note: to the young people that are showing up to vote, Thanks!!!

Minnesota Caucus Shows Difficulty in Converting Student Enthusiasm Into Results, Especially For Ron Paul

While true, there are other factors...

1. Old retired people have nothing better to do than go vote. Young people are working jobs AND going to college at the same time. Many can't afford to get the time off work, etc etc. If these ran until 10PM or something we might see a better turnout, but getting off work and getting up to a polling place before 7PM isn't easy for everyone.

2. While younger people might vote in lower percentages, just saying there was low turnout among young people doesn't sum it up. Keep in mind that the baby boomers are a huge generation from back when people were having tons of kids. Our generation has grown up in a constant cycle of booms/busts and very few people are brave enough to have more than 1-2 kids, if any...

Getting out the youth vote isn't the big answer, though it would help. The big answer is trying to reach old people somehow...but since they only watch the MSM, and probably don't even realize that Ron Paul is still in the race, that proves difficult...

On the one hand I agree with your post. On the other, no poll showed Ron with 27% and I'm pretty sure that bump came from young people. We need BOTH.

DELEGATES DELEGATES DELEGATES DELEGATES....any questions? stop watching TV...become a DELEGATE...CNN and FOX want you to think just voting in these caucuses and primary's is all you need to do....wake up.

I agree we need both... This means working TOGETHER.. not bitching about different groups...

That is the point

RE: ageism... society is fracturing. we have co-parenting, where people get together to have kids w/o the romantic entanglements, we have sd/sb relationships - again without the romantic entanglements - in most cases..., we have micro-employment and so on. Polly relationships. Things are shifting. Much of this is driven by the economy. Personally, my gf is half my age - may-december rocks! our entire society is going through major changes. I welcome it with open arms!

If 100% of the youth vote voted? wed still be behind...I have been saying this for a while. The majority of the vote is baby boomers..... the majority of the new youth are minorities that we dont do well with. WE need to realize our grassroots are our base but the campaign needs to run a standard campaign at this point and let the grassroots do what we do best, grow the base. We are at a % now were we can get mass appeal, but like mac computers we market it as niche and those outside the base are turned off cause it doesnt match there PERCIEVED needs. So we get stuck cause the older folks show up and say "wow... just like the went nothing rallies i went to when i was there age" we need too have Ron talking to the mover and shaker small groups who talk to everyone. The tea party vote is massive and made up of the baby boomers. They can truly focus on them. People need to see its not just our base of young people but there peers out there too. The young people are flocking cause there peers are.... the over 40's are staying away cause they dont see there peers signing up. True story... went to a meetup... it was a little over half over 40. Within 15 minutes? every under 40 had texted all the other under 40's they were going somewhere else cause it was a bunch of "tin foil hat old people".... and i got one of those texts... I stayed but i was the only under 40 still there within 20 minutes of it starting.... afterwards I went and met up with all the others at a bar. We are splitting ourselves cause we think focusing on the youth vote is the "future of the party" yes its the future.. but the party as it stands doesnt like us, cause we are completely against them and think they are just icing on the cake... when in reality they are the entire cake and we are the candles on top. we dont change the cake..... we just make it look nice for two seconds.

I recently sold a business of 15 years where most of my work-force was 18-25 (I am 53), so I interacted with young people every day. I find young people "politically lazy." Much more so than when I was the same age.

That's why I enjoy visiting this forum. It encourages me to see young people so politically active. Just show a little respect for us "old farts."

I'd be willing to bet that a plurality of the votes Ron Paul has received this election came from "old folks".

Older people enjoy seeing us involved.... they DONT enjoy us putting them down or over inflating our value..... some times the youth vote is to the campaign what the FED is to the economy.... a false over inflation that leads people into a false sense of winning.... lets get back to the gold standard of elections... people in there golden years

"Golden Years" Grrr...

okay... golden years may not be the best phrase... but lets face it... the over 40's always have and always will decide elections

That's true :D

The greatest irony of them all: Ron Paul IS old.

Elephant in the room lol

Don't mind it but that's disturbing. May be I'm too old-fashioned but I can't imagine being with someone half of my age, we wouldn't have much in common at all........but then as it is, it's your freedom, so be it.......no wonder the society is so fractured

Old People is a subcategory of Dumb People.

albert einstein was a real dumb ass... so would be Ron Paul.... and old people "are" not old people "is"... of course my grammar is atrocious. but at least I wasnt calling people dumb when I was doing that

woooosh!

I should have mentioned that we're dealing w/ "dumb people," and "old people" is a subcategory just as many others are.

I have a sea container with product I bought overseas arriving on the docks tomorrow. I create jobs. Perhaps one day you will. I dearly wish you would stand shoulder-shoulder with me and help unload that container. You might learn something.
