“This is the Super Bowl of security” (TSA @ trains, no-fly zone, checkpoints, snipers...)

Now well beyond airports, the TSA will in train stations searching travelers before entering & after exiting the trains. There will be X-rays, pat-downs, dogs everywhere, thousands of government agents, cameras abound, and sniper nests. Mass transit areas are littered with rifle-toting government agents who's purpose is to make sure that everyone else is disarmed.

The Super Bowl is designated a Level One national security threat by DHS, signifying that Homeland Security Presidential Directive 5 is in effect. This means the federal government grants itself the power to intervene with and lead all security operations over a given event and its surrounding region. In other words, money and manpower are thrown at the event with reckless abandon.

There is a no-fly zone imposed over the stadium being enforced by armed Blackhawk helicopters and fighter jets. The waterways are filled with gunboats, and armed helicopters survey the area with thermal cameras and high-tech sensors. There are roadblocks set up at "key places" around the city of East Rutherford to search vehicles for bombs.

There are over 100 agencies participating in this police state extravaganza; an upwards of 4,000 security personnel. National guard soldiers, DHS agents, FBI, NYPD, and many others. SWAT teams will be on site looking upon the crowd with sniper rifles. A mobile command center will be set up on every block.

And while Americans sing praises to government forces and songs about how free they are, the police state has reached normalcy.

And no tailgating.

The more I am looking at this, the more I think it's an opportunity to get as many LEOs in to see the Super Bowl for free as possible.

One can only hope that is why 18,000 tickets remain unsold and prices have collapsed for them.

I'm sorry, but only a certifiable asshole would subject themselves and their family to this nonsense.

Prices were too high up front, which made it a poor value even before the security idiocy was known. Weather made New Jersey even MORE unattractive (and that is saying something). Security means that almost no pregame pageantry can be randomly or spontaneously accessed... including zero tailgating. WTF is that? Next year it seems like they'd just be better off issuing approved onesies with the team logo that have no pockets, no metal fastenings, etc.. Much more efficient! <s>

I think it's sold out now, but there's no way I would go through that.

That was the estimate of tickets in the secondary market- resellers/ scalpers- last week. As far as the NFL was concerned, the game sold out months ago. They got their money for the tickets.

While the cold weather had been a concern, that’s now been factored into prices and isn’t expected to have much of an effect going forward, unless there is a snowstorm, market watchers said.

Instead, limited travel demand by fans of the two Western teams, a glut of available tickets and sluggish interest in the New York metropolitan area are contributing to the tailspin.

More than 18,000 tickets remained available on the secondary market Monday.

“Everyone had this notion at the beginning of the process that this would be a hot ticket and prices would match everything else in New York,” said Chris Matcovich, of Tiqiq.com, a secondary ticket marketer.
Sounds like a huge pain in the butt just to get to the game. No taxis allowed. No limos. Limited bus service. If you do drive, no tailgating unless it is inside your car.

“It feels secure,” said Robert Caballero to ABC News after his wife and daughter had their purses searched by TSA agents at the train station. “It’s a great idea. In this day, unfortunately, it’s better to be safe than sorry.”

You, sir, are an ASSHOLE.

Go Hawks!

Denver = Spokane on steroids

edit: this pregame wait is killing me: I predict a beastmode touchdown at 4:20 Seattle time

Because nothing says freedom more than hut hutting cops with automatic rifles barking orders at people, pat downs, total surveillance, snarling cop dogs, snipers aiming at your head, fighter jets and hovering, armed helicopter gunships.

People are fainting at Secaucus Junction train station from the long lines and giant crowd of people trying to get on the trains.

This extra security forcing so many people to be on their feet for such a long time (without food or water) is a disaster for medical services personnel... but it's not like they give a shit anyway.

Are you stuck working in it?

I hope not.

I wouldn't wish that on anybody.

Best of luck if you are, keep us posted with updates if you can.

That's why I have nothing but pure contempt for people that voluntarily submit to this, just to be entertained by a bunch of faux warriors chasing a ball around.
