As I hear the mainstream media talk about the decision to scrap the F22, I chuckle to myself. One of the main points for scrapping the F22 was that it simply 'wasn't needed anymore'. Or that it 'wasn't the type of plane being used in Iraq or Afghanistan'. This is ridiculous..the F22 is the best air superiority fighter we have, it is almost solely for air defense. The fact that it isn't being used in pointless wars is true, it's not an attack fighter. And yes, it's an expensive plane. But if we stopped these wars we could reallocate the budget to DEFENSE, where we COULD afford to have them around all the time.

The military establishment has sincerely believed for the last decade that warfare has permanently entered a "4th generation" and that the military should specialize its vast resources and technology to fight primarily peasants with bombs and Kalashnikovs around the world, and that all future conflicts will resemble Afghanistan and Iraq. Talk about tunnel vision...

Also, don't be surprised when all that counter-insurgency stuff they've developed is turned on US citizens.

It's a piece of shit. Might be good for some of what it's designed for, but totally sucks for most mission profiles.

You need to take a step back and realize that the only countries that have air power to match an F-22 are nuclear countries.

I don't feel comfortable by letting Russia have air superiority with their MiG-31, not to mention their upcoming MiG 1.42 MFI.
