With Malcolm Young suffering from age related dementia, Phil Rudd in jail for soliciting a hit, and now, Brian Johnson facing total hearing loss, could this be the end?

Damn it...I'd be inclined to tell the medical fascists to pound salt.

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson to stop touring to save his hearing

Doctors tell the veteran frontman that if he stays on the road he risks total hearing loss

Could AC/DC’s Rock N Roll Train finally have reached the end of the line? That looks likely to be the case, with the news that singer Brian Johnson has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately, or face “total hearing loss”, according to a statement on the band’s website.

The band – due to perform in the UK and Europe this summer – have postponed the remaining 10 dates of their US tour, though the band say they “will be made up later in the year, likely with a guest vocalist”. What happens after that is unsure, though tour dates through to June 12 are still listed on their website.

Johnson has been AC/DC’s singer since 1980, when he joined following the death of Bon Scott. His first record with the group, Back in Black, became the second best-selling album of all time, behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller. He became a firm favourite with fans for his apparently boundless goodwill, and for a voice that seemed as though it could probably pierce armour.

The news caps a troubling couple of years for the band. In September 2014, it was announced that rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young – the group’s founder and de facto leader – had been forced to leave the group owing to the onset of dementia.

In an interview with the Guardian, Johnson and lead guitarist Angus Young revealed that Malcolm had played through the group’s world tour in support of their Black Ice album with the symptoms already apparent, and was having to relearn the set between shows.

Just before the release of the Rock or Bust album in November 2014, Phil Rudd – AC/DC’s drummer for 40 years – was forced to leave the group after being charged with attempting to procure a murder and threatening to kill, as well as possession of drugs. He pleaded guilty to the drugs charges and one count of threatening to kill and in July 2015 was sentenced to eight months’ home detention.

Damn it man :(

Indeed. It was a hell of a run though. Never giving in to the record exec whores that urged them to change up their sound for what ever new whim of the week. Straight up pure Rock-N-Roll. I salute them.

I seen them last September in Detroit. Was a great show, but you could tell they were getting old.

I saw AC/DC twice, the last time seated close to the stage. It was so loud, I had to break off filters from two perfectly good cigarettes for makeshift earplugs. Good show though, the last had been rescheduled do to Brian having laryngitis or something. He apologized for the rescheduling. A true professional.

Second best selling album, ever, in the history of recorded music:

Back In Black.

How is this "medical fascism?" They didn't put a gun to his head and tell him he couldn't keep playing. They just advised him of the risk. Maybe he could tour and wear some of those headphones you see on the aircraft carrier guys? Or maybe AC/DC could go acoustic?

Second best selling album, ever, in the history of recorded music:

Back In Black.

And the first best, selling more than twice number 2, was Thriller. That's a record that will never be beat. Especially since "albums" are not sold as much in the pure digital age.

I heard on the radio this morning that the rumor is that they are going to restart/finish the current tour with Axl Rose as the guest singer.

Hard to believe that one. GnR is starting up a reunion tour, and that would probably ruin that. You never know though.

Dunno, but ACDC only has 10 shows remaining on their tour.
Personally, I think it would be cooler if they did a "Rockstar" thing. Find an ordinary joe fan to fill in... or something.

They need a big name to satisfy people who already bought tickets.

The "Rockstar" thing is so common today with old rock bands. They bring in a singer from a tribute band and keep touring. Journey, Foreigner, Styz are a few examples. Luckily Styz has three lead singers, so it's only one who is the clone, although he was the main singer.

I think Axl's voice could pull it off but his disposition.. not a great touring guy

I'd watch Rockstar AC/DC - at least for the first few eps - I watched the supernova one.. I can't watch the idol and AGT crap but rockstar introduced me to a couple singers I still follow.. just went to a show for one of them a couple weeks ago.

I thought Pink Floyd had #2 .. Dark side of the Moon...?? Maybe that was longest in the top 100...
