Hi,
I have heard from various sources that APMEX charges high premium. Is there a better company out there???

Silver leaf is the best on shipping. My opinion. I've ordered from them on 3-4 occasions and no problems. Remember you will have a cannibus leaf on your round.

I've used APMEX on numerous ocasions over the past 4 yrs with no problem.

APMEX. Once you order you have very little to worry about.

Sorry to thread hijack.

I'm in the market to spend ~$500 on silver, but relatively clueless about precious metals in general. Was thinking about purchasing bars. The only thing is, I'm somewhat worried about getting ripped off with silver plated bars. Am I paranoid in thinking that if I purchase from a dealer like APMEX that I'll get ripped off? Also, are bars a worthwhile buy, or should I stick with bullion/junk (already have some bullion/junk silver)?

Bars and rounds ARE bullion. Junk silver isn't bullion.

No, you won't get ripped off by Apmex, they're the biggest precious metals dealer in the United States. If you're that nervous, then don't buy any secondhand pieces from them, just buy new. And if you're willing to buy junk to avoid counterfeiting, you can get American Silver Eagles from them.

Deciding between junk and bullion is a matter of what you expect to do with it, and also what kind of premium you want to pay. Junk has a lower premium than bullion. Also, some people buy junk because they think that in a currency collapse, people will be willing to take the small silver coins. But if you just plan to keep it as a store of value indefinitely, consider getting a bar. Say a ten-ouncer.

I've bought all my silver off eBay. Just get a good detailed search and you can find whatever. From what I've noticed shipping is always legit. You can usually get it for just a little over spot
