how is this different from keenefest?

1st, there isn't a Keene Fest anymore (or hasn't been lately). There have been various Free Keene Festivals or something similar over the years, usually right after Pumpkin Festival or in the Spring. Those were outdoor events that lasted 1/2 a day. When it rained or was cold, they were unfun events.

This is a 3 day conference in a conference center at the Sovereign Hotel. There will be events around town, for example, 2-3 hikes of the area will be lead by locals (like how there is a group hike every day during Porcfest). There will be a variety of speakers and panels. The speakers will all live in New Hampshire or perhaps a couple might live in MA or VT. It is closer to Liberty Forum than Free Keene Fest. The point isn't to network the people of NH in Keene. The point is to showcase NH in the Fall. To encourage people to visit NH to see what the Fall and Keene area are like.

Imagine a smaller, less expensive Liberty Forum that happens in the Fall in Keene, NH.

It is kinda like how Grafton's Burning Porcupine and the Bardo Farm Festival are smaller, less expensive alternatives to Porcfest. IMO, it's important now that we are 2-3 years away from triggering the move to have more of these regional events designed to attracted out of state folks and give them info about the area and the state. The great thing is that none of these events happen at the exact same time so people visiting NH from out of state have more options to see and learn more about the various areas of NH. You should call into Free Talk Live some night and ask Ian Freeman about it. It's his idea so he can better explain it.

Keith, thanks for posting this. I hope people can make it out to the premiere fall event.

However, I'm not sure if "amazing" is the right adjective to describe the event, given that it has never happened before, so we don't know what adjectives to use to describe it yet, besides "inaugural" or "first-annual" and such.

Recent developments concerning Keenvention!

With the recent formation of the Foundation for New Hampshire Independence the openly secessionist NH Liberty Party, and the regional Spirit of Arcadia, discussing secession is a conversation that is going to be had more frequently across the Shire in coming years. Almost everything is announced now and this event is looking awesome. Keenevention tries to be different from other liberty conferences and conventions because it's by activists that do more than just write, study or blog. It by activists that actual do physical activism such as testifying at a state house, literature distribution, civil dis, robin hooding, free market activities or something else, these folks are all up in liberty activism.

i would go if there were going to be some hikes. I love hiking in the fall. Do you know anything about hiking?

Keene is like 20 minutes away from the most hiked mountain in the Western Hemisphere. Keene is also in an ancient lake bed and surrounded by hills. There is a 30+ mile rail trail on the eastern side of Keene and 20+ mile rail trail on the western side of Keene. Small mountains are all over the place. There are miles of trails in the main cemetery, alone. West Hill actually connects to another trail that connects to VT. And the largest state park in NH (and it doesn't even charge fees for hiking because the other parks cover that) is 2 towns south of Keene. It's 13,668 acres and you can hike all of it.

While in Keene, you can: Go Hiking!

This just in – there are now two hikes scheduled during Keenevention, both led by the NH Liberty Alliance‘s “Activist of the Year”, Keith. Hiking is one of several outside-the-hotel activities happening this weekend. On Saturday, after the keynote speaker, Keith will take you up to “Sunset Rock” on Beech Hill. This hike is pretty easy and you will enjoy a view of downtown Keene. On Sunday, after the closing speaker, Keith will take you up West Hill. The view isn’t as nice as on Beech Hill/Sunset Rock, but Keith says you will feel this hike in your legs. Keith will meet prospective hikers at the hotel after the keynote speeches. The hikes will be cancelled if it rains.

Here are several other things you can do outside-the-hotel while in Keene for Keenevention – no Keenevention ticket necessary. Though, if you’d like to attend Keenevention, tickets for the whole weekend are just $50 until 10/31 and $60 at the door (or you can buy a day pass for $25).

This event is happening right now. There are additional happenings not on the schedule. For example, last night, some people went out dancing. Today there are 2 VIP meals, a lunch and a dinner. Lots of great audience questions have already happened.

We are all in luck, though. All of the panels and speeches are being recorded. If I am not mistaken, they will all be but online for free.

Ian Freeman is bringing Keenevention back in 2014. He just made the announcement today. When more details come out, I'll create a Keenevention 2014 thread. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up right now. It happens during Halloween weekend.

Keenevention returns for 2014! Join liberty activists in Keene at the Best Western from Friday 10/31 through Sunday 11/02 for this intimate, activism-focused convention.

Keenevention is your opportunity to explore New Hampshire in the fall – particularly the arguably most famous (or infamous) activist destination – Keene. Plus, participate in panel discussions, enjoy great speakers, the camaraderie of like-minded individuals, fun social events, and get a taste of Keene activism in real-life.

Get tickets and more information at http://keenevention.info/
