The Alamo Open Carry Protest

As a result the city of San Antonio, TX having an ordinance that violates Texas state law that clearly allows the open carry of long guns (rifles, shotguns, etc) a protest was held today yesterday, October 19th 2013 at 10am at the Alamo.

Estimated number of attending protesters: 600-800

The event was encouraged by a number of different groups, most notably "the OathKeepers", Blogger Mike Vanderboegh, and Alex Jones. On the Oathkeepers website they list some of the other groups that helped organize as well as spoke at the event:

Open Carry Texas
DontComply
Texas Carry
Come and Take It

After all the speaking was done the entire group engaged in some peaceful civil disobedience. Without "permission" or "permits" and at the frustration of the SAPD the entire group of armed protesters politely (we observed traffic signals) marched to Travis park 2.5 blocks away. North on Alamo plaza, west on East Houston, then north on Jefferson. We then engaged in a bit more speechin' at which point, many folks with tired ears began to slowly disembark. LoL. Me included.

One of the more interesting moments happened while we were leaving - Out of blacked out SAPD suburbon the SAPD police chief, William McManus, appeared with big cheeky grin while hollering out toward us - "Hey is that guy with y'all", while gesturing towards a man in a Darth Vador custume, "Bob" from New Mexico quipped back, "NO, he's on your team, the dark side." Everybody started laughing. LoL.:)

I cannot verify that the SAPD personnel was in fact William McManus. However I was walking right next to Bob when it happened and saw the entire exchange. ----> EDIT: UPDATE:Chief William McManus was the SAPD officer confronting "Bob" with the Darth Vador comment. LoL. The confirmation is in a radio interview with David Codrea -- its at 36:30 when Codrea tells what happened.

Overall it was a big success! A great second Am Rally. In fact I'll have to say it was the best that I have ever personally witnessed. It felt very empowering. Its was a real motivating experience.

FYI - I carried my Winchester model 94 30-30 that my dad bought me for Christmas (at seven years old).

Strange episode:

I picked a spot up on a raised section of grass with a large oak tree to watch the rally. Along with me was much of the the press. As the press piddled around and chatted amongst each other one of the women journalists or friend of the journalists became visibly shaken, even frightened of the armed ralliers. As I watched and listened to her I could tell she was having some type of anxiety attack -- she verbalized that "all the Men" were upsetting her, she became red faced, very nervous looking and scared at which point a couple of her female colleagues took hold of her and walked her away from the crowd to console her.

Freaky man Freaky.

Anyway here is a pic of the frightening crowd...

Don't you guys see that these were the armed, right-wing terrorists that we were warned about!

It's a miracle that there wasn't a shooting! ;)

The women that I saw freaking out was a true believer. From my perspective she truly believed that she was amongst a large group of murdering terrorists just waiting to kill her and all of her lefty friends. Ok, she wasn't that bad, but enough so for her friends to have to calm her down. Maybe it was a combination of a fear of crowds and right-wing terrorists who knows.

Nice vid, Jones always makes me smile.

Firearms are to modern man what the spear was to ancient man. When I get involved in gun control debates, I ask this: Why do you want to deprive the common person of modern means of self defense? Don't people know that slave/lower caste populations have been since time immemorial denied access to weapons.

Oh wait, exceptionalism. I totally forgot that historical trends and cycles don't apply to Murica. Fuck yeah.

We should change the name of the country. The united states? How boring, how misleading. I dub thee: Murica Fuck Yeah (MFY).

Take it a step further. I'd rather be shot with a modern firearm than mauled with some of those ancient weapons.

You get shot with an AR and you'll get a pinhole in you.

This, however, is for turning people into hamburger meat:

I'd tell her that I was taught to use a rifle at age 8 without a permit.

Cross bow was deemed too dangerous in the hands of peasants so the pope decreed that they could not possess them. Yep been going on for thousands of years nothing new to see, just some control freaks scared of freedom in the hands of a commoner.

And the fact that it was kryptonite to the aristocratic knight had nothing to do with that decision.
When I ponder weapon consolidation ("gun control") I think of Sparta and Messinia.

"God didn't make men equal, Samuel Colt did." There is much truth in that concise aphorism, for those that care to extract it anyways.

Liberals had a fit over this.

To bad they were having audio problems. I couldn't hear a word that Kathie said. That Stovall character seems like an intelligent fellow, good speaker. I wonder what his foreign policy would be like.... Bah-dum-tish:)(inside rally joke) ... And I must have missed McCall entirely.

Worthy note that I forgot to mention -- There were LOTS of young people sporting arms. I'll have to give Alex Jones some credit - many of them were wearing infowars t-shirts or hats. Kudos to Alex even though he was screaming into the mic. LoL.

Isn't Julian Castro the mayor of SA?
