Ted Cruz Tells CNN: I'm Signing Up for Obamacare

One of the Affordable Care Act's biggest foes will be signing his family up for Obamacare after all, CNN reports.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz previously had been receiving health insurance benefits through his wife Heidi's job.But Cruz on Monday announced he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, so his wife took an unpaid leave of absence for the duration of his campaign, and that makes her ineligible for company benefits.

Heidi Nelson Cruz is a managing director at the Houston office of Goldman Sachs. On Monday, during his announcement, Cruz stressed again that he wants to repeal the entire law as soon as possible.

"We'll be getting new health insurance and we'll presumably do it through my job with the Senate, and so we'll be on the federal exchange with millions of others on the federal exchange," Cruz told CNN Thursday afternoon.

CNN termed Cruz's move onto the federal exchange as "ironic." CNN's Dana Bash appeared dumbfounded.

"But senator, for right now, the irony is just kind of unbelievable that you have made your name fighting against Obamacare and now you're going to sign up getting your insurance through that very process: Obamacare," Bash told him.

But Cruz dismissed that interpretation, saying he is only following the law.

"I believe we should follow the text of every law, even [a] law I disagree with," Cruz said. "It's one of the real differences — if you look at President Obama and the lawlessness, if he disagrees with a law he simply refuses to follow it or claims the authority to unilaterally change."

Saying "we should follow the text of every law" is one of the most anti-liberty things that could be said. This guy is a joke.

Wait one minute. I thought since she will be eligible for COBRA for the next18 months....since healthcare is avalible that he would not qualify for obamacare

I think the point Cruz is trying to make is that he will suffer with the Obamacare mandate as we mere peasants must due. Obama exempted himself, the Congress and Congressional employees from the law. That is why I believe Rand signed his family up, to prove he did not think he was above the law due to his status in Washington.

No law should exist that isn't applicable to all of Congress and the presidency, I think Rand has a bill out to this effect, at least for congress.
+ 1, Rand signed up so he can't be accused of being a Law Breaker...most likely.
I paid my fine , don't mind thumbing my nose at legisalation that is in direct conflict our Bill Of Rights.

(John Kerry mentored), ///// Cruz sends a resoundingly clear msg to us all :
" I was for it before I was against it, I was against it before I was for it, I'm forgainst it so help me God ! "

The only reason socialist/fascist/corporatist programs work to the reduced extent that they do, is because principled people refuse to sign up for them.
I wish those against these programs would figure this out: there is no shame in taking government money.
When you take government money, you're accelerating the inevitable insolvency of the program you're accessing.
In other words, you're doing really the one and only effective thing you can do to try to end that program.

This was great PR for Rand Paul. If Cruz spins it right, he could get great RP from it. So far, at least in this thread, Cruz is getting bad PR for it. I'm fine with that :toady:

If enough people "with means" absorb the fine as part of their health care cost and independence from the bureaucracy
then O'Bombercare would kinda unravel, wouldn't it ?

Hmmmm.

Money quote, Cruz in it for the subsidy:

Cruz could go without insurance, or his family could get its coverage directly from an insurance company at what would likely be a far higher rate than is available via an exchange. Doing so would mean Cruz would not get the contribution from his employer to help offset the full cost of his coverage.

Also the fact that Cruz has been on Goldman's healthcare means he has been directly benefiting from Goldman, not just indirectly through his wife.

One does not sign up for ObamaCare. You either get private insurance or Medicaid.

The media is flipping out and showing their insanity.

i thought obamacare was the marketplace enrollment- any insurance bought outside of that time period is by a different standard.

Possibly, but if it caught on significantly , the Muslim would increase the fines to a ridiculous level, well any fine at all is ridiculous, and
FORCED HEALTH CARE is unbelievably against everything this Country was founded on.
Congress is complicit for approving the funding..... a bunch of criminals at the very highest levels.
