TechCrunch: Ron Paul’s Anti-Net Neutrality ‘Internet Freedom’ Campaign Distorts Liberty

The libertarian super-duo, Congressmen Ron and Rand Paul, launched an “Internet Freedom” campaign this week that has come out swinging against net neutrality, branding it as a clever attempt at more government intervention. “The Technology Revolution” manifesto decries any attempt to regulate private Internet service providers as an afront to liberty, yet seems to ignore that powerful telecommunications monopolies can wield as much coercion over the future of the internet as the government. A world without a level playing field of internet bandwidth allows powerful companies to favor their well-endowed corporate friends over the scrappy startups that power the most vibrant innovation on the web.

The father/son manifesto praises the Internet as an unqualified libertarian success story, “companies, like Apple,” it explains, are ” responsible for creating almost half a million jobs in the United States since the iPhone was introduced…All in less than 5 years, and all without government permission, partnerships, subsidies, or regulations!”

Some(or most) of these bloggers need to learn economics before they open their mouths.

Why does he think Paul's was to promote big companies and special benefits for the ones who are the best lobbyists?

yet seems to ignore that powerful telecommunications monopolies can wield as much coercion

Still haven't read it, but if it does not address opening up the market to competition, they probly should.

Complete and utter trash. Libertarianism no longer reigns on the net, only selfish, indoctrinated left wing fools, indoctrinated by their liberal college professors to believe that rights come from their government and that somehow anything and everything falls under "public domain".

Bottom line? Friggin lazyness. ATT is one of the companies in my state that has a natural monopoly over cable/internet. They provided me with shitty rates, quality and customer service so I dropped them. It's like these fools would rather me bitch to the state of South Carolina or DC over the "unfair" treatment I received with them. Fuck that, i'll just cancel the shit and find a better provider. I mean..what's next? All of the major mobile providers are throttling "unlimited" data plans for people that go over a limit, the fuck do these lefties want? The federal government to step in and say "no no no! you can't do that!". Personal responsibility, not that hard to comprehend. Don't like it? Do something about it. Don't whine to the government.

Ya this article is trash, but i think Paul's decision to focus on the internet in addition to the Fed is a smart move.
