There's a group trying to get a billboard in a high-traffic area of a Republican-leaning part of South Carolina.

They have a web site here: http://greenville4ronpaul.com/

I think this is a VERY good idea, and here's why:

1. SC is an important early primary
2. SC at this point is lagging for RP
3. The Greenville area and the I-385 corridor represent a good-sized chunk of the population, and is also a Repub stronghold in the state.

I'm not sure I can think of a better bang for your buck in SC, other than radio advertising on AM 560.

Let's get this done quickly., and give the Good Doctor a boost in this early primary state!

PS: As a guy who holds an English lit. undergrad. degree, I am SO embarrassed that I misspelled "targeted" in the title. Can I blame it on my lack of caffeine?

Sounds like an awesome idea... I'm afraid I'm tapped out after Nov5th, but everyone who's already maxed should contribute!

something that we might need to consider... I was looking at a map that was showing how about 40% or so of the voters in the Charleston area vote Independent or Libertarian... we really need to put up billboards around there... remember, our message is spreading mainly through people, word of mouth... If Charleston starts to talk about Ron Paul, that will spread through the state...

Did it ever dawn on you that those of us who are maxed out might be tapped out too? Maybe even more so?

Don't you think we should SEE what they plan to put up for a billboard, before we donate to this?

I suppose. Is there some concern that they'll put up a terrible one?

I have seen a lot of threads here disintegrate into various camps on the design/message of billboards/commercials/web design.

Personally, I don't much care what the billboard looks like. Driving down I-385 at 75mph, the best we can hope for is to get the name to stick, anyway. Given my choice, I'd like something very simple and bumper sticker-esque, just the name and the official web site, or maybe the new hope site.

But I think it would be counterproductive to stall this based on a quibble over design.

"Google Ron Paul!" or the "Hope for America" slogan with his pic and the website info. The less text to read the better, so it needs to be catchy.

This is happening in my neck of the woods, I just sent a note to the meetup group 85 to see if someone can come on here and answer any of your questions.
And yes a Chipin on Chowda's RonPaulGraphs would be a great idea.

Greetings all,

Phillip here from the Greenville Ron Paul meet up. It was my idea sort of. I stole it from the guys in Kansas who put one up earlier in the year. It's pretty simple, we are looking at 30,000 to 80,000 views a day, and a price tag of $1,800 to $3,700. We are currently working on a design for the billboard. Also we are at $600 or so in donations. Now for a meet up that has over 100 members we could all donate as little as $20 to $30 and we would have all the donations we need, but most I guess most of our members would rather sit on the sidelines and let everyone else pay the bill.

Peace

I've seen what the Billboard is going to look like. It is very impressive, a real eye getter. very professional. set up real nice. It set up so everyone will like i. Even the most skeptical people.

I think this is a great idea. However, and I don't know if it's possible for this billboard, maybe another in the near future... but I feel like there should be something on the billboard, in readable font that says "Paid for by supporters of Ron Paul" or something else to show that REAL PEOPLE like you and I paid for this, and support our candidate, and not come across as just the campaign doing what campaigns do.

I believe people relate to people more than people relate to campaigns. Keep up the good work guys.

Here are the design IDEAS we have so far....

We currently do not have an official decision on the billboard. Jimmy is making several designs, then we will have the donors do an informal vote and discussion on the designs and in the end the five organizers of the Greenville MeetUp will make the final decision. All of these should be understood as ‘Rough Sketches’, since he didn’t want to spend too much time on several designs when only one will be chosen. Minor issues and details can be discussed in the final phase. Right now we are only deciding on the general appearance. There are and can be several more designs that look entirely different but this should be enough to kick the discussion off. So feel free to make suggestions and let us know what you like and don't like. Just remember that these are still just sketches, so don't get too picky... yet.
