Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Akesson

When Swedes went to the polls late last month for the parliamentary election, most of them did not suspect the anti-immigrant “far-right” Sweden Democrats (SD) had much of a chance, especially after the party was banned from advertising in certain subsidized media outlets and generally ostracized and demonized as racists by mainstream society. by Alex Newman

Swedish Anti-immigrant Party Wins Big

No real big suprise.

While the world media consistently refers to the Sweden Democrats as a “far right” party because of its strict stance on immigration — it wants to reduce immigration by up to 90 percent and start encouraging refugees to go back to their home countries — the reality is more complex. The party generally supports the massive Swedish welfare state, as long as it is used for Swedes. It is also an advocate of “social justice,” a broad term normally referring to wealth redistribution and increased state control over the economy. But, it also claims to support traditional family values.

These things typically go hand-in-hand.

Its often said that one of the reasons Sweden and Norway have been relatively sucessful under socialism is the low populations in each country. Its seems that many people who support socialism in Sweden want to keep the population low for just this very reason. Its much easier to control the people when the gates are closed. Plus, socialism cannot react to changes the way capitalism can.

Good point.

It is the same in Britain with the BNP. Rarely is the BNP mentioned in the press without the term 'far-right', which is a dig at the mainstream right. The BNP among other things, supports protectionsim, trade unionism, wealth distribution, social justice etc.

National Socialists in Europe.

Who would have thunk.

:(
btw, there are a few that visit here.

Socialism can work in a small population. But when practiced in large populations it morphs often times into communism, which never works. - for the people anyway.

It's not so much about keeping the population low as it's about worries about Islamic immigrants taking over the nation.

As far as I can tell a continent spanning civil war between Muslims and non-Muslims will break out eventually, like it did in the Balkan in the 90s. The third world war in the making.

I've long thought this too. Scandinavian culture has long valued education and hard work. When outside cultures that don't emphasize those two things enter the system, then the problems multiply.

Well I think it can work for a time. Scandanavian Socialism will have its day of reckoning, even if the culture and population don't change much (although I'm sure those will be a couple of the key causes anyway).

What Scandinavia has isn't Socialism. In many ways it has more economic freedom than America.

You might also want to look at the Heritage Index of Economic Freedom:

Sweden's economy is 70.4 percent free, according to our 2008 assessment, which makes it the world's 27th freest economy. Its overall score is 1.4 percentage points higher than last year, reflecting improvements in trade freedom and financial freedom. Sweden is ranked 14th out of 41 countries in the European region, and its overall score is higher than the regional average.

Sweden enjoys exceptionally high levels of investment freedom, financial freedom, property rights, business freedom, and freedom from corruption. Virtually all commercial operations are simple and transparent. Foreign investment is permitted without government approval, though capital is subject to restrictions in some areas. The financial sector is highly developed, and the Stockholm stock market is open to foreign investment. The judiciary, independent of politics and free of corruption, has an exemplary ability to protect property rights.

In contrast, Sweden has some of the lowest scores worldwide in fiscal freedom and government size. The top income tax rate of 60 percent is one of the highest in the world, and total government spending equals more than half of GDP. The labor market was highly regulated, but reforms have led to a score equal to the world average in labor freedom.

And I find it funny so many Leftists in Sweden are going nuts over this party. Even going as far as to calling it anti-semitic when almost all the main leaders of this party are Jewish or have some Jewish ancestry. And the party seems to be embrace hardcore zionism.

Actually, the "conservative" party in Sweden is not like the way we describe "conservatism" in the US. What is considered conservative in Sweden would be the far nationalist corporatist right.
Sweden is has always been very socialist country, a cradle to grave nanny state which started privatization in the 1990's, because it was simply not working:

Cradle-to-grave security is the rule in Sweden, and has been since the early 1950s (the country went socialist in 1932). Go on the dole in Sweden, for example, and you can get 80% of your last job's pay for at least five years. Like to fish? The government will put you in a twelve-month program to learn how to be a fishing guide. Health care is free. So is education. Hence those obscenely high taxes.

Less well known, however, is that starting in the early 1990s, Sweden finally woke up to the fact that to be successful, a country needs entrepreneurs. No entrepreneurs, no new businesses. No new businesses, rising unemployment. Rising unemployment, politicians looking for new jobs—or new careers. Deciding that they like their jobs, a new generation of Swedish Social Democrats has created a much more friendly environment for business. Sweden is not a capitalistic heaven on earth, but it's not the hell on earth for entrepreneurs that it was until a few years ago.

IN addition to a plethora of policies which come along with a "progressive" society built on coercion. An interesting article from Lewrockwell on this:

According to a Swiss federal government statistical comparison of Switzerland and Sweden, the percentage of Swedish unmarried pregnancies in 1996 was 54% percent – roughly equal to the black community in the United States. The reason for this high rate of unwed pregnancies is apparent in both cases, and it is not illegal drugs: the state gives incentives to unwed mothers in the form of social benefits, with predictable results. Why go through the hassle of getting married or staying married when a government check means that such a decision has no practical consequences for your life? Over the long-term, a 54% illegitimacy rate can only undermine Swedish society.

Worst of all, the Swedes have not always acted benevolently, as reported on page A1 of the August 29, 1997, Washington Post,

From 1934 to 1974, 62,000 Swedes were sterilized as part of a national program grounded in the science of racial biology and carried out by officials who believed they were helping to build a progressive, enlightened welfare state...In some cases, couples judged to be inferior parents were sterilized, as were their children when they became teenagers.

Sweden was lucky enough to aoid the devastation of both the World Wars, and entered the post war era in a relatively peaceful and intact way. But even after all the privatization and stability which attracts entrepreneurs and investors, it is still:

The Swedish government still spends more money than any other government in the world, relative to gross domestic product (GDP). But changes are afoot. Finance Minister Anders Borg recently produced a comprehensive plan, "Reconstructing the Swedish Model: Challenges and Priorities" that illustrates the new administration's sincerity for
reform.

And of course it is not only predictable but quite expected hat when shan hits the fi, you have to find a scape goat. In the mostly collectivist Western Europe, that is not something novel, but quite a legacy. So of course, factions which capitalize on demagoguery and fear blame it on the muslims. No Muslims? blame it on some other group. In fact, the most unfortunate hysteria of Muslim hate in this country which bars introspection is an import from Europe.
And it does not matter how irrational it is, sheeple are sheeple. And it is unfortunate that many in this country who are far away from those socialist utopias, and most o whom have such scathing hatred for socialist societies don't hesitate to jump on he wagon instead of employing their brains. but then again, that's the nature of bigotry ain't it?

Because of immigration, Sweden also has a significant Muslim population. They number about 500,000, but only approximately 5% (25,000) of these actively practice Islam (in the sense of attending Friday prayer and praying five times a day).[140] Åke Sander stated in 2004 that "we do not think it unreasonable to put the figure of religious Muslims in Sweden at the time of writing at close to 150 000".
wikipedia

The Baltic Tatars were the first Muslim group in modern Sweden. The faith arrived in the country primarily through immigration from countries with large Muslim populations (such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Morocco, Iraq, Iran and Somalia) in the late 20th century. Most Muslims in Sweden are either immigrants or descendants of those immigrants. The majority of them are from the Middle East, especially Iraq and Iran. The second largest Muslim group consists of immigrants or refugees from former Yugoslavia, most of them Bosniaks. There is also a sizeable community of Somalis. The second largest Arab group are Moroccans, but not all Muslims from Iraq or Morocco are Arabs; among them are Kurds and Berbers, too.

Never mind an overwhelming majority of Swedes are atheists and non religious, up to 80% of them. So much for "religious wars. FUck it, let them deport Muslims, and stop every single Muslim for immigrating. You can bet the next in line would any other immigrant left, starting with those who look the most different.
At least this would give us another example (among the numerous NUMEROUS ones we already have) of how a society implodes from within a decaying system and elite and the consequences of collectivism. But I doubt another living example would make much difference to blindos.

So the liberalization and privatization of the Swedish economy has already been going on?
